5 days late for my period, going on holiday this weekend. I've only just fucking come on haven't I !! I'm so pissed off, if my period arrived when it should have I wouldn't have this issue.
But now I'm going to have a sweaty, bloody mess to deal with (sorry I know it's graphic I just get annoyed sometimes and men just don't get how easy they got off with life compared to us women)
My periods are horrific since having my two little ones so I'm really worrying now, new holiday clothes that I'll worry about wearing due to flooding SadSad

Stress will do that, put your period back.

dementedpixie · 26/06/2024 06:49

You could have used period delay tablets to help prevent your period happening around your holiday

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 26/06/2024 07:12

My periods have become more irregular in my late 40s and I can go for a couple of months without one. Any important/inconvenient event and they show up now. So far this year has included:school outdoor ed residential, rare weekend away with DH, Ofsted inspection...

allaboardtheplaybus · 26/06/2024 07:14

Have you considered a mirena coil? It sorted out my horrific periods very quickly.

Toptwins · 26/06/2024 07:14

I had this last summer and looks like it will happen again this year! Bastard periods. It means obsessively checking a) you haven’t flooded b) the string isn’t hanging out of your bikini c) you’ve got 100 tampons with you if you’re moving far from your hotel room etc etc.

WolfStar · 26/06/2024 07:15

This happened to me on a waking holiday with friends. Period was 2 weeks late and I’m normally as regular as clockwork. Couldn’t blooming believe it.

Not a toilet in sight for long stretches of time, having to skulk off to squat behind bushes and struggling with flooding and no facilities. Ugh. And no sea swimming either as I didn’t dare take off my black leggings. Men have no idea!!

Sympathy - and I hope you enjoy your holiday anyway. Have a great time.

Alwaysthesun24 · 26/06/2024 07:18

Sorry @vacay, that's bad timing.
Have you got period underwear, and maybe even swimwear? Wearing that as well as your usual protection might help you worry a little less about leakages? A sarong wrap or two for moving around? Lots of painkillers?

Alwaysthesun24 · 26/06/2024 07:20

@WolfStar that sounds, pardon the pun, really pants. Some folk would just have felt too lethargic/drained to carry on with the walking if it was really heavy - you did well to keep going!

vacay · 27/06/2024 07:08

Thanks everyone for the tips. Black sarong I have got. so I'm glad about that !
I did buy a lovely linen look one in cream But not risking that one now lol
Yeah next time I will take that northisterone stuff. I'm usually so regular that I wasn't worried at all I would've been on my 5th day now !
By Saturday I should be tailing off. It's today and tomorrow that's going to be bad and

Mine comes on days when it's not supposed to and often quite early. Job interviews, graduation and even on wedding day ffs! When I have nothing going on, it's like clock work but anything important happening it suddenly decides to rain on my parade with blood, sweat and tears.

GameOfJones · 27/06/2024 07:33

I totally get you, my periods are so much worse after having my two DDs. The first two days are so bad with flooding that I have to wear a tampon plus a pad and change them really regularly. Period swimwear sounds a good idea, or hopefully you get the worst days out of the way today and tomorrow.

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 27/06/2024 07:34

It's not sexy but if you can get to somewhere that sells full incontinence knickers (tena or similar) a lot of us in the flooding club swear by them as the only thing that allows us to leave the house with any confidence. Take nappy bags (or dog poo bags if you already have those instead!) for disposing them. Ginger (fresh, juice shots or dried) and ibuprofen can also temporarily lessen the flow.

watchingsmurfs · 27/06/2024 07:41

Can you get to the doctor for some tranexamic acid? This reduces my very heavy periods to almost nothing. It can extend the duration by a day or so but so much more manageable.

keylimedog · 27/06/2024 07:44

Ahh that's so annoying!! I find ibuprofen is great for reducing cramps / flow (I hate a holiday period, days 2/3 I'm normally housebound!) but find that dosing myself at an appropriate level for me (as discussed with GP) really helps.

TiddlyCove · 27/06/2024 07:50

Could you wear period pants in addition to towel/tampon in case of flooding?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/06/2024 07:52

Mini pill?.a lot of women don't have periods at all

frozendaisy · 27/06/2024 08:04

Yeah it is quite literally pants

Oh OP I would be so pissed off, we have holiday booked summer holidays and you can bet what should be perfectly midcycle won't be. It's truly rubbish.

Shower morning, evening, and heavy flow should be over in what first 48 hours, if you haven't flooded after that hopefully you can relax a bit about that

Always towels do keep things in double up, sleep on towel and have a "I have every right to be pissed off" lunchtime cocktail with a book

MigGirl · 27/06/2024 08:06

If you normally use tampons and are brave enough go to boots and get a menstrual cup. They really work so much better for heavy periods. Period pants are a good option to.

SpringKitten · 27/06/2024 08:09

I agree - women’s biology causes issues men will never really understand. The worry of when the timing of your period might collide with something important is not something my dh would ever have understood. And do we complain? No, we just deal with it, like we have for centuries.

I had these floody painful periods after my dc and I got a Mirena coil - sorted my periods (I stopped them). Nothing short of life changing (I didn’t want any more kids so was also handy from that point of view)

Hope you can still have a good holiday OP.

Candleabra · 27/06/2024 08:11

Can you get some period pants as a backup? The M&S ones are very absorbent.

RedQuail · 27/06/2024 08:24

I find norethisterone period delay tablets lighten and then stop my period after being on them a couple of days. I know your supposed to take them 3 days before start of period but it does / should stop your period anyway so worth still taking them.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 27/06/2024 08:33

I know how you feel, I get my period every time I go on holiday 😡.

lairyfights9 · 27/06/2024 08:40

I feel you op! I've just come on 5 days late and now am very likely going to be on when on holiday next month (first abroad holiday in 7 years). If I'd come on on time then I would've been in the clear next month!

CountdownCat · 27/06/2024 08:41

I just got a batch of period delay tablets from boots online doctor, as my next 3 are due to clash with a weekends away for my birthday, a holiday, then our anniversary! Bloody typical!

MissLucyLiu · 27/06/2024 08:42

Feel for you! This happens to me every time I am on holiday! It's like my body finally relaxes the period comes on!
