An election one. We locally, currently, have a Tory MP, historically my area switches its political allegiances with each election. So with this in view I have been interested in seeing what each of the parties has to offer, before I decide who to vote for.
So I've had leaflets and visits from representatives from the Lib Dems and the Labour party, but nothing from the Conservatives. I've heard from a friend who lives in another constituency, a similar story, although she had an email (supposedly from Rishi) telling her why she should vote for them.
I am interested of other peoples experiences, have the Conservatives given up on campaigning?

30,000 to 40,000 households in each constituency. You will really only get contact if it's competitive and from the two parties most likely to win.

Although you should get one leaflet per party delivered by the Royal Mail.

DinnaeFashYersel · 25/06/2024 15:34

And it's unrealistic to expect to get an individual visit from Candidates

ClaudiaWankleman · 25/06/2024 15:35

I've had Labour and Lib Dem leaflets through. Realistically it will be a Labour win and the LD are the second party. So perhaps unsurprising.

We've had loads of flyers and visits from Lib Dem, but nothing from anyone else! In a Tory seat but last time Lib Dem only got a tiny amount less votes.

GameOfJones · 25/06/2024 16:14

We're in a Conservative/Lib Dem swing constituency. I have heard absolutely nothing from our current Conservative MP and about eleven billion leaflets from the Lib Dem candidate basically all saying "only voting for Lib Dem will get the Tories out" so much so that's annoyed me for the total waste of paper delivering countless leaflets to the same address and the lack of actual policy statements other than "I'm not a Tory."

I've heard nothing from Labour, Greens, Reform etc but did get a knock at the door from our local Social Democratic Party candidate and we had a really good chat, he lives in the area and as a consequence, I'll be voting for him.

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/06/2024 16:17

Nothing at all. No signs, no posters, nothing.

worcesterpear · 25/06/2024 16:23

I'm not sure how parties do their marketing, there are four of us eligible to vote now and we've had:
DH - one leaflet from Reform (he's never voted Reform
me - nothing
DD1 - Labour leaflet (I think she did vote Labour last time)
DD2 - Conservative (she's a first time voter)
We've not had anyone knocking on the door.

CeeJay81 · 25/06/2024 16:24

Various flyers through the door but it's come out today that our mp had been suspended. Very safe tory seat here, so what happens now? Does that mean the Tories can't stand? I bloody hope so!!

SilverSimca · 25/06/2024 16:26

Just got a leaflet through today from the Tory rower they have parachuted in as our previous MP decided to leave the sinking ship. One of his six pledges is to build a swimming pool in our area of town apparently, because God knows, when I think about what this country/our local area really needs, more swimming pools is right there at the top. Apparently he has been seen door to door as well.

We have had lots through from Labour and the candidate came to our door. Our road is festooned with Labour posters and signs.

Haven't seen LibDem guy or any LibDem literature but that is not to say there hasn't been any, DH might have recycled it.

Nothing from anyone else as yet.

I think they still have to stand as it is too late to do otherwise but will not get any campaign support and in the unlikely event they win, wouldhave to join another party, sit as an independent or resign their seat.

Edited to add: Sorry, you said it was a safe seat, I thought the suspended MPs had been unlikely to win anyway but may be wrong!

AuntieSoap · 25/06/2024 16:29

Lib Dems out in force around my constituency. It's a Tory/Lib Dem battleground so I'll be voting for them

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 25/06/2024 16:31

We're in a Labour/Conservative swing seat.

Neither has been in touch, I guess they're assuming Labour will retain the seat comfortably this time round.

However, the Plaid Cymru candidate has been working his socks off to speak to as many people as possible and makes regular updates on social media about his personal priorities if elected.

The Reform candidate may as well be invisible, likewise the Lib Dem and Green one. You really do wonder why they even pay the entry fee with so little effort in a two party swing seat.

The independent candidate is taking a similar approach to the Plaid candidate...but on a smaller scale - most likely to do with not having party resources to back them up.

I don't expect the personal touch, but I do expect them to make every effort to engage with the people they want to vote for them. I won't vote for anyone who can't be bothered to make even a token effort so currently my choices are independent, Plaid or spoil my ballot!

Portakalkedi · 25/06/2024 16:35

Nobody been here, but we are in a rural village. Lots of fliers through the door, although some of them arrived after we had posted back out voting forms so too late. Emails from our current MP who has helped me out with a couple of matters.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 25/06/2024 16:36

No, the two main parties are having a willy waving contest on Facebook and arguing like nursery school children. Both of those candidates are a parcel of shite or there is NIs answer to Reform so we're stuffed regardless.

Warmhandscoldheart · 25/06/2024 16:51

Weirdly Labour visited before the Election date was announced!!! No other candidates have visited my local area.
I've had a typed letter from Rishi, whoopee, in which he referred to me as 'you kind of people' 🤔
And leaflets and booklets from the local Labour, Tory and Reform candidates.
Reform is trolling all the other parties on Facebook, only Tory have caved and blocked him so far.

HashtagShitShop · 25/06/2024 16:59

Had a couple of leaflets but noone knocked yet. (I'm a carer for parent who is essentially housebound so would know of they'd come round.) we had been la our for many decades but brexit switched area to tory sadly. Current mp is incredibly unpopular and won't get voted back in. I wish they'd knock though as I'd like to ask them about disabled people and also unpaid carers and why it's acceptable to them to pay me and millions of others approx 40p an hour for 24hr 7 days a week care.

slavetothekittens · 25/06/2024 17:00

Had various leaflets from Labour, lib dems, tories, reform, but only the Labour candidate has been to the door. Short visit as I told him he'd already got my vote....I posted it the day before!

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/06/2024 17:04

No Jacob Rees Mogg hasn't come round yet. I expect he'll be around on polling day because we live adjacent to the polling station.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 25/06/2024 17:06

We've had many, many leaflets from all parties inc Reform and 2 visits from Labour so far. The Labour canvasser practically begged us to vote for them.
I know the Conservatives (actual candidate) has also been out in the area but I must have been out when they called. Not a peep from the Lib Dems. We're in a Tory stronghold Labour are hoping to win.

UnusedUsername · 25/06/2024 18:14

Leaflet from conservatives and reform. No door knocks. Nothing seen or heard for labor or lib dems. Conservative area traditionaly, likely to stay that way although tactical voting sites show Labour giving them a good run. Can't see that happening if they don't campaign though!

MirandaWest · 25/06/2024 18:18

Have had many leaflets from labour. No visits though.

Nothing from conservatives. Has been very much a conservative seat so either they are deluded or they feel there’s no hope.

Couple of leaflets from Lib Dems and one from Reform. Nothing from Green or independent candidates:

Not many posters on houses here but any there are are labour ones.

MargaretThursday · 25/06/2024 18:24

They have.

I still don't know what any of them will do.

I do know what they think the others have done/will do badly.

GalacticalFarce · 25/06/2024 19:30

Only one independent and she was lovely.

LostGhost · 25/06/2024 20:31

Lib Dem and Green have both been round.

We've had leaflets from I think Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem and Green..

I say I think because the dog got to them first so I had to work out what they were from tiny scraps on the floor 😂

BasiliskStare · 25/06/2024 21:38

I've had a canvasser from the Labour Party today - lovely chap .
