The Beatles. Hugest influence on everything in the 60s and a bit of the 70s, socially and culturally, as well as on me as an individual.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 24/06/2024 23:46

George for me too. I feel like he ‘was there’ at every stage of my life. I listen to him most days.

Skunk anansie they have been my companion in the most horrific times and the great times.

they gave a voice to sections of society who really didn’t have one at the time. Got messages out to people who again at the time it wouldn’t have been on their radar to think about.

and skin showed me a woman didn’t have to fit into societal norms in either looks or behaviour to be beautiful and be successful in the world just the way you are.

I also liked no doubt (still do) and gwen Stefani when she was young in the band and when she first went solo she just rocked the stage and was a force both strong while being unashamedly feminine but iv kind of gone off her in the last decade, she seemed to shift which I suppose people do as they get older but I don’t see the person I used to see anymore. I don’t wish her ill but she doesn’t speak to me now and that’s ok.

also not all her work but I love jagged little pill by alanis Morissette

i could list a few metal bands too but I won’t as the post will be massive

Am going to google Skunk anansie .

There was a funny story after Stormzy had headlined that Stormzy had to sheepishly apologise to skin after saying he had been the first black artist to headline at Glastonbury and she politely and lightheartedly pointed out to him that she had infact headlined with the band 20 years earlier.

no falling out but it was quite amusing

Tori Amos, specifically Little Earthquakes album. I listened to it a few weeks ago for the first time in years and her lyrics spoke to me so much.

It amazes me that at its time of release it felt totally relevant to my life even though I hadn't experienced a lot of life or turmoil. Now, 30 years later, the lyrics resonate so much because of the experiences I've had. That album was genius, and Winter had me in tears.

Bowie (see user name)
