School places - what happens

We're moving areas because of work. Hours and hours away.

The LA we are moving to has 6 boroughs, the one we are moving to has 0 school places available for the years we need (1&4). There's extremely limited places in the other 5 boroughs.

Is it likely they'll allocate my 2 children places at different schools in different boroughs? This could be a 45 Minute journey between schools, what would happen logistically with that?

You could take a place for the year 1 child and then appeal the place for your year 4 child. You’re much more likely to win that as upper school isn’t bound by the same ratios.

Thanks

In similar circumstances, I was offered school transport for my elder child as the school was more than the statutory distance. (They used 2 miles but usually 3 miles for yr4)

How far away from your new address?Over 2 miles should and LA offer funded transport but that may still be using public transport. When you find out , ask if either school offers wraparound care.

We'd need to use wrap around care regardless due to work.

Good to know that they may offer funded transport.

It'd be at least 3 miles, could be up to 10
