Any Americans here?

I'm putting together a fun package to send to my friend's kids in the states. Can anyone recommend things (mainly food based!) that you can get in the UK but not America?

I don’t know what the post before is about. 😂 Things to send though:

Proper biscuits - digestives, shortbread
Classic British chocolate - the Cadbury’s one with the popping candy in it (what’s that even called), kinder eggs (I know not British)
Ribena, Iron Bru
Strange flavour crisps - prawn cocktail, beef, roast chicken

floppybit · 23/06/2024 13:24

Proper Bassets liquorice assorts and jelly babies!

floppybit · 23/06/2024 13:27

Scottish shortbread in tin with 'Scottish stuff' on the front, Tunnocks caramel bars, prawn cocktail crisps, all the bog standard chocolate bars like Crunchie, Double Decker, twirl, Galaxy

Won’t kinder eggs get you on some sort of list for importing dangerous items?

fairly sure they’re banned over there and you can’t smuggle them in legally.

AllTheAll · 23/06/2024 13:57

They have kinder eggs in US now but with different packaging I think (not choking hazard, but same chocolate and there is a prize).

Suggestions here are good. Crisps in unusual flavours and biscuits. Especially chocolate ones.

Most of the above mentioned stuff is available in the US, depending on where.
Certainly Golden Syrup is a staple.
My sisters asks for fruit pastilles. I used to bring my mother Turkish delight (the one in chocolate with shiny purple wrapping). My other sister likes a certain M&S. cheese cracker...Percy Pigs (though I wouldn't thank you for that).
Yo can get Walkers flavoured crisps on Amazon in the US.

GoogleWhacking · 24/06/2024 19:09

@mondaytosunday for a price you can get anything. Also what is available in one state easily is not the same everywhere. Also golden syrup may be available but it's not the same.

Toolateforteeth · 24/06/2024 19:15

Blackcurrant flavour anything? Blackcurrants weren't a thing in the US, though I might be out of date.

Spanglybangles · 24/06/2024 19:15

This is what was requested by my family who live stateside a few years ago on a visit

M&S extremely chocolatey biscuits or Waitrose equivalent (more chocolate than biscuits?)

dizzydizzydizzy · 24/06/2024 19:26

Chocolate.

Thursa · 24/06/2024 19:31

Don’t send Kinder eggs, they’re banned and there’s something ridiculous like an up to $2500 fine.

You can find Kinder Joy in America but not the Kinder Surprise eggs.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 24/06/2024 19:35

Why are Kinder eggs banned?

VeryQuaintIrene · 24/06/2024 19:37

Good tea (you can get it there, but even PG Tips is absurdly expensive.)

Needmorelego · 24/06/2024 19:38

@Redlorryyellowlorryblue because apparently American children might eat the toy by accident or something......

This looks almost identical to my stash I take every year!! 🤣 Glad to see that I'm not the only one lugging bottles of golden syrup, Bisto etc across the Atlantic!! 🤣

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/06/2024 09:53

They like a toffee crisp.

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/06/2024 10:23

Tbh you can get pretty much everything there and it may be expensive but less than you'll pay in postage.

Things my parents always take back with them in luggage though

Dairy milk
Bransrton pickle
Yorkshire tea
HP sauce
M&S mountain chocolate
Plain chocolate digestives
Marmite
Squash
