Please guide me like I'm a child - car insurance

Can anyone help me please?

My car insurance renewal has came through at £1000 for the year. I have used comparison sites and found a quote for £663.

I have never called to cancel/challenge a renewal quote before and I am not the bravest at things like this over the phone.
Can anyone dumb down to me what I need to say?

Do I initially ask to cancel and wait for them to haggle me down after I tell them why I am canceling or do I start the conversation by telling them I have lower quotes and want them to match it or I will have to cancel? What is the correct process?

Thankyou!

Tell them you've received a much cheaper quote elsewhere and unless they can beat it/match it, you wish to cancel your insurance.

Make sure they forward your no claims discount certificate too.

Phone your current provider ( I do all mine online so I’d just cancel any auto renew)
Say you do not want to renew your insurance as you have a lower quote.
They may try to offer you lower, or match the quote. They might not.
Check new insurance covers everything you need
Start it for the day your old insurance expires.
it’s very easy, they’re used to it.

I don't think there's as much wriggle room with renewal quotes as there used to be, if at all really. I wouldn't be surprised if would come anywhere near matching that, so will just say thanks and goodbye.

You can call then and tell them you habe and a much lower quote. But I've found that in the last few years most insurance companies won't match other quotes anymore. I don't think they have much wiggle room anymore. No harm in n asking though.

Just make sure that the new quote you have had matchs your old one like for like though as it could be cheaper if it has a higher excess and lower cover for things like legal protection. So making sure you are getting the same level of cover for less before you ring them.

Yeah give them a call to match it but also check the cover is the same too as its getting less likely to get the same level of cover for cheaper

You often need to speak to them to avoid automatic renewal, so watch out for that.

But the NCB is usually on the renewal notice, and recorded on the big secret insurance database so you should have that anyway.

Yes, do make sure it's like for like (if you want that). The initial quote I get from comparison websites always goes up once I add in the legal protection, at-home breakdown rescue etc. that I have on my current policy.

Then phone them and take the initiative - say you've found a cheaper quote elsewhere and can they match it. But with such a big gap they might not.

I'd recommend shopping around more until you have the lowest price. Make sure the cover is like for like. Check things like excess and legal cover. Then just ring up and ask if there's anything to do. The last few years Admiral matched other quotes for me. This time they didn't. So I stopped around and saved about £450. You often can make significant savings by shopping around.
