School selling popular hydration drink during sports day

GiddyGingernut · 21/06/2024 12:25

You can't bring your own food and drinks for your children, though.

Perfectly acceptable to sell a popular hydration brand drink with limited stock per day throughout sports day week but remind parents not to bring any food or drink to the event.

Screw that - I'm loading up my own bag with drinks for the kids!

Assume water is available

Only their own water bottles for the day.

Are they worried parents are going to pitch up and have a boozy picnic or something?

TigerWhiskers · 21/06/2024 12:29

I think it's a good way for the school to do a bit of fundraising...assuming you know what the school is putting the money towards.

All goes towards the PFA team so I can understand selling products but declining parents bringing in own products is what mildly irritates me.

Wouldn't put it past some parents...

That's what will increase sales though. But I can't imagine them actually enforcing it on the day.

Love51 · 21/06/2024 12:48

We can't get close enough to our kids to give them anything! They have to sit with their group when not competing. PTA sells refreshments to parents. All kids are told to take a drink and provided with an ice pop (funded by the PTA!)

We have to chase our child's group around the field when they change activities. Lol

I wouldn't mind too much if the refreshments were varied and not just Prime hydration drinks!

And there's a problem with that?

AstonMartha · 21/06/2024 14:44

Maybe they are sponsored. 😂

It should be water only.

RandomUsernameHere · 21/06/2024 14:57

Our school have banned it and also banned them from bringing in the bottles even if used for water!

Youdontevengohere · 21/06/2024 14:58

Ours just have their water bottles. Nothing else brought in (we don’t get close enough to them anyway), and nothing for sale. Thought that was normal. They’re allowed to refill their water bottles, obviously.

OhBumBags · 21/06/2024 15:03

Why would you bring food and drink for your kids anyway?

It's a sports day, not a picnic.

Water is fine.

No I wouldn't dream of bringing in any food.

I'm perfectly fine with just water - I'm more perplexed as to why they're selling the drinks in the first place and now I feel obligated to bring in something else but water for them.
Some strange mum guilt I guess.

No problem at all - moreso them selling anything other than water now I feel obligated to give my child something else due to being "left out".

I’d be seriously pissed off at a school selling Prime to the kids. That’s ridiculous.

Primary or high school?

Both the primary and high that mine go to are water only. The primary school PTA sells tea, coffee and flavoured water to the parents if they want it.

Primary.

It's madness.

That’s even worse.

caffeine packed energy drinks aren’t suitable for young children.

Even their own website says it’s not suitable for under 16s

PRIMARY???? I'd go to the press. With a sad face

Peonies12 · 21/06/2024 15:21

That's appalling they're selling an energy drink at a school event. They are so bad for health. And under 16s can't buy them. I'd be going to the headteacher and local press.

GiddyGingernut · 21/06/2024 15:22

Just to clarify - the Prime hydration drinks do not contain caffeine. Their energy drinks do

Oh right.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/06/2024 15:25

@GiddyGingernut The school has probably done a sponsorship deal and a condition is that they try to ban people bringing their own.

I would be annoyed too. And I’d bring own drinks.
