Daily ways to manage constipation?

Sorry, TMI!!!! It's not totally terrible, but just not as easy to poop as before. (Have gotten checked out - nothing majorly wrong, probably just stress or slow digestion). Short of drinking prune juice all day or taking medication, is there a way to manage this daily? Some supplement or other?

I find the best thing is a combination of fats and fibre, e.g. eggs cooked in butter with mushrooms - always sorts me out if I'm bunged up. Or a root vegetable like a celeriac chopped up and cut into chips cooked in olive oil. Or a veg soup with some cream in.

I find if I just eat fibre alone (like bran flakes) etc it has the opposite effects and makes constipation worse. Got to have some fat in there.

eat lots of watermelon

Just try out different stuff until something makes your insides work better.

For me muesli. Eating bananas for some reason also gets things going pretty quickly.

Having a routine helps
Daily exercise - increases peristalsis - walking is fine
Using a step, sitting right on the back of the seat
Keeping hydrated
Not leaving it to get too bad - if it's been more than a day or two, sugar free sweets usually provoke a quick reaction

Flax seeds and lots of water. Also try and make time to have a peaceful visit to the bathroom around 30 mins after each meal.

Lots of good advice above also ground and soaked linseed. Game changer!

Biasol crafty cookie mix- I picked it up in Ireland but bought it since online. Two cookies and things move (along with the usual water, chia seeds, flax seed etc)

Activated buckwheat with yogurt seems to be very useful for me. With lots of water and a very strong coffee.

Elsewhere123 · 20/06/2024 15:25

Home made museli with plenty dates, cranberries, seeds, nuts with live yogurt and sometimes strawberries at 8pm every night.

Movicol/Laxido. No 'self help' works for me, but a sachet a day makes my stomach a lot better!

AlanAlanAlanAlanAlan · 20/06/2024 23:28

Lactulose and a shed load of water.

AlanAlanAlanAlanAlan · 20/06/2024 23:29

....And peanuts with real ale for some reason.

Magnesium worked wonders for me before I got my stoma.

LokiCroc · 20/06/2024 23:36

Been suffering on and off for years. Lots of water and 2x psyllium husks tablets a day. I bake my own wholemeal bread which I think helps. I haven't figured out the causes for me. I've learned the hard way that if I do end up taking laxatives to stay near a loo at home for at least 24hrs.

PardonMee · 20/06/2024 23:37

lots of water, dried apricots, orange juice, very strong coffee, exercise

Vagus nerve stimulation. I just bought an Amofit S but there are plenty on the market or a tens machine apparently does the same thing if you use it the right way. I was surprised by the number of people in a group that I joined had found it helped and thought that it probably wouldn't for me but lo and behold, 3 days in and things have started to move. Very pleased as I can't do most of the above suggestions due to other conditions meaning I can't have fat or sugar in more than the tiniest quantities and magnesium gave me palpitations. It was about £200 I think although don't quote me on that.

2 kiwi fruits every day leads to the perfect poop.

I watched a series on channel 4 red Know Your Shit (it's still on the channel 4 app thing).it was interesting and t recommended the kiwi to one of the people on the show.
