Are the current covid strains ‘worse’…

Please scroll right on anyone who gets riled up by covid talk!!

I have had covid twice that I know of, once right at beginning of pandemic and again two years ago. My two kids have had confirmed bouts on two separate occasions when I haven’t become unwell. Prior to vaccination I had two blood tests a year apart confirming high levels of immunity. I had one jab but wasn’t allowed to have a second as I developed a serious immune system disease.

I outline the above to demonstrate I should have at least some immunity.

Since Sunday I have been laid up in bed with a fever of up to 39 ish degrees coming and going . Headache. Severe sore throat. Swollen glands. Slight cough. Haven’t felt this bad since the flu 17 years ago.

Did a covid lft yesterday as need to know as have rwo immunosuppressed work colleagues ( was hoping to be well enough to go back today!!) got a strong positive.

I am feeling very sorry for myself and wondering if this new strain is hitting people harder or if have jyst become considerably weaker 😞

Tbh I know a lot of people who've had it recently and got off lightly so I just suspect it's random now it affects you.

Icannotbudget · 20/06/2024 16:43

I had it recently and was in bed for two weeks. It was horrible. Fever, fatigue, lack of appetite/ taste, awful sore throat - I only tested as I have had it twice before and it felt familiar (plus, I am not OK about giving it to others!!)

Drink loads of water, rest rest rest and go easy on yourself.

Ah, that sounds really tough! And unlucky. My husband has just had Covid (test confirmed) - he lost his sense of taste and smell, and basically had a heavy, phlegmy cold. I didn't catch it from him. I hope you feel better soon!

socks1107 · 20/06/2024 16:56

I've just had it and it felt like a very heavy cold. I worked from home each day and carried on indoors as normal.
My daughter caught it off me and was worse but fine after 3/4 days

Moorlander · 20/06/2024 17:01

I had it not long ago and it really knocked me for six- much worse symptoms than the first 2 times I had it - I couldn't stay awake I was so tired, muscle aches, cough and temperature. I still don't feel quite right weeks later. I put it down to not having had a vaccination recently.

lostinlego · 20/06/2024 17:05

I had it very sore throat for 1 day, Then bad cold and loss of smell for 3 -4 days, then just felt a bit run down and tired. I wasn't really affected badly when I had it the first time either. So it's probably more down to luck.

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 20/06/2024 17:08

I haven't had a vaccine since late 2022, as I got covid a few weeks before I was due the jab at the end of the year and figured that an actual dose of covid would be as good as if not better than the vaccine, I will be getting the booster this winter.

Hope you feel better soon, sounds horrible 😐

I could almost have written this myself! Sending Hugs, I have been much the same but no fever. Felt awful since Sunday, been in bed since Tuesday and positive LFT on Wednesday (came up staright away!! )

This is the worst I have felt with Covid and I know many people that are experiencing the same.

Rest up and I hope we both feel better soon 💟

I'm on day 5 of my third bout and although have felt rubbish and still not completely better, I was much more ill the previous two times. The first time I was properly, flu-like unwell for a fortnight before I even started to recover at all, and had a cough for 6 months. The second time I was flu-like unwell for a week and then took another 7 days to gradually get back to recovered. This time has been a lot milder in comparison.

DoAWheelie · 22/06/2024 15:36

Both me and my OH got it in March. I ended up getting emergency steroid treatment as my O2 levels plummeted.

My OH died.

A few other more distant family members have also died after a quick illness in the last few months. It's been back to back funerals. So it does seem to be worse in my experience.

Thekormachameleon · 22/06/2024 15:42

I'm just recovering from it
This is the 4th time I've tested positive and without doubt, has been the worst

12 days of fevers, fatigue, sore throat, loss of smell and taste

I’m so very sorry to hear about your partner 😢

I had it a couple of months ago, felt slightly unwell for 2 days, gave it to DH and he was really unwell for three weeks!
I think it varies.

I though immunity to COVID wanes which is why vulnerable get repeated vaccines.

Yes immunity definitely wanes, but that doesn’t explain why I have ended up so much iller this time comparative to the first few times. Its just weird 😞
