We just bought our first home and as a house warming present my mam has offered me a new hoover. The current hoover we have is corded and bulky, our new house is over 3 floors so we were thinking maybe a cordless? We have 15 pets so ideally something that can cope with a bit of hair/litter/hay but we do sweep the bulk of things.

So we’re looking for suggestions, ideally nothing that is too expensive but would like one that will (hopefully) last

We've got a Shark Stratos with the pet hair and odour removal; its fabbb, I love it

We got the corded one but they had cordless version

It was on sale plus I get discount from work so it worked out to less than £200. The cordless ones are a bit more expensive

My previous shark hoover was also brill and lasted a good 8 years before giving up the ghost, I'd never go back to a super heavy henry / super expensive dyson now!

Miele C3 for pet hair. I 'inherited' mine from my gran and has only just started to get a bit beaten down after ~10 years. Still works, just squeaks a little these days. I've bought the same one again that I haven't actually taken out the box yet because the squeaky one is easier to grab 😅

I've been looking at this one, but have just had our wooden floors revarnished, and need something that wouldn't scratch them. Is this good on hard floors? And what's the battery time like?

Cordless vacuums have rechargeable batteries which do need replacing after a while, 3-4 years depending on usage. The replacement battery cost for my dyson is £85.

I have a corded Miele C3 which is about 12 years old and still going strong but does use bags which cost about £5-6 each. It rolls over like it's drunk at the slightest tug and is difficult to manage on stairs but it is the best vacuum I've ever owned in terms of cleaning.

@budgiegirl it has a hard floor setting, hasnt scratched our wooden flooring at all :)

Can't comment on battery life, we went for the corded version because I'm a bit slower these days (arthritis) and dont trust a cordless to last long enough 😂

thank you! We have a miele C3 at the minute but it can be difficult on the stairs I find.

I will have a look at shark
