If you had to leave your home immediately and could only take one object - what would it be?

You have 5 minutes to leave your home. People and pets are safe. You can only take one object with you. What would you take?

I would have said a photo album if I had one, but I don't. So instead I would take a sculpture that I bought because it reminds me of my late mum.

House keys and phone.

Alex Drake · 20/06/2024 00:22

My iPad, it has everything I would need, insurance documents etc and also all my photos!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/06/2024 00:22

I suppose it's cheating to say handbag?

I suppose if you spend the 5 minutes filling it up then it probably is!

Sewing machine.

CalicoPusscat · 20/06/2024 00:31

Assuming I was wearing my jacket then handbag, as I'd have keys, cards, phone, passport and some jewellery.

Let's face it, if you were only going to take one thing there's loads more you'd mourn, wouldn't you??

No, I'd just need to grab my phone and bung it in.

Mosaic123 · 20/06/2024 00:36

Jewellery. I'd need to sell it to start again.

DoYouSmokePaul · 20/06/2024 00:38

It’s an interesting question. I mean, these days phones and cards, etc are all replaceable - photos on cloud, all that stuff.

So what one thing is irreplaceable? I’d say a stuffed toy cat from Japan that is the closest thing DH and I will ever get to having a child (through choice I hasten to add). I genuinely can’t imagine life without it.

andyourpointiswhat · 20/06/2024 00:39

My passport.

Meadowfinch · 20/06/2024 00:39

My bag which contains wallet, phone, prescription drugs, driving licence.

SlowlyForward · 20/06/2024 00:53

My clarinet. Totally useless obvs, but from reading your question it is so up in my mind that I can think of nothing else. I would happily leave the house naked it I had to in order to save it.

NightsWithYou · 20/06/2024 00:57

My dogs ashes.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/06/2024 01:08

A photo of my children when they were 4 and 6. They were in the back garden, soaking wet and mud all over from playing in the rain. They each had an arm around the other's waist with huge smiles from laughing. They were each other's best friends and still are over 20 years later. I adore that photo.

Christ0nABike · 20/06/2024 01:12

An old wooden chest that’s filled with all our important docs and a lifetime of photos.

And my phone. I’ll put it in the chest if I have to.

Lillieloola · 20/06/2024 01:14

Phone if dog was safe.

Blackbeardsvest · 20/06/2024 01:21

DD's 'comfort item' (don't want to specify as would be outing), she's 15 and has autism and it would be vital to her coping with having to leave her home suddenly like that.

Depends on the person. I'd mourn nothing - I've moved home 26 times in less than 20 years - over 2 continents and 8 cities.

The only consistent thing I've bought with me is my record of achievement with my qualification / certificates in. So I guess that's what I'd grab!

CalicoPusscat · 20/06/2024 01:30

@IceCreamConvert that makes it easy for you! Are you settled in one place now?

I have no idea where my certificates are at present

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 20/06/2024 01:39

As long as I was in the bedroom. Mine would be my Cats ashes, the card with his paw and nose prints, a bottle with some of his fur in and his blanket that I sleep with, and the other things would be a Peter rabbit teddy that has my Baby's remains inside it and Peter rabbit lunch back that has my pregnancy tests hospital bands, birthday and Christmas cards and various other memories inside it. I could put all that in a pillow case within a minute or so. Obviously I'd grab my phone but that's always next to me oh and some pjs cos if it's during the night I wouldn't fancy being stood outside in the street naked. No one needs to see that image! However if I was in the living room and a fire started in the kitchen probably not much other than trying to find something to smash the window with cos my only ways out are the side door off the kitchen or the patio doors off the bedroom which I'd have to walk through kitchen to get to either.

Jewellery box- save my jewellery and all our I.D is in the bottom drawer.

Deebee90 · 20/06/2024 01:52

Just a necklace that’s been passed down my family for generations. Everything else is replaceable

Yes. Ds' comfort item. Dds comfort item. Both have Autism. Or, if they were carrying them already I'd take the letters my husband sent me before he died (& hope I was wearing the ring he gave me)

imisscashmere · 20/06/2024 02:18

My wedding jewellery.
