What the doctor told me....

....a few years ago I went to see the doctor about some problems I was experiencing. After some investigations the doctor diagnosed me with anxiety. I accepted my diagnosis but felt a little sad about it. The doctor said to me "Hey, don't worry, this is a great diagnosis. You will never ever have a problem with your physical health again. I can guarantee that in the future if you feel unwell in any way, it will be all in your mind. You can come and see us and we will reassure you that it is just anxiety. Congratulations you can look forward to a future of perfect physical health "

And can you believe it....he was right! Every time that I have been to the doctor since, no matter what the problem , I am told you're fine...you have anxiety!

Funny that it only seems to work that way with women...

@Persianpuss I know it's so strange!

Depression works the same way.

Insomnia, panic attacks and mood swings? Here, take some antidepressants. (Couldn't possibly be menopause, not even with the hot flushes and irregular bloodbath periods. Why are you worrying about osteoporosis? Here, take some more antidepressants.)

Unable to get up in the morning from stiffness? Unable to function properly at work from constant pain? Here, take some antidepressants. (Couldn't possibly be a herniating disc, despite the physio referring me back and saying I needed to see an orthopaedic surgeon. Why are you catastrophising about phantom sensations in one leg? Here, take some more antidepressants.)

Dh hasn't a clue what I'm talking about. GP has always taken everything he says seriously.

Me too!

Unexplained weight loss down to a BMI of 15 - anxiety! Or of course, since I have one mental illness, I simply must also have another and I'm actually anorexic. Although of course this apparent deterioration of my mental health and worsening anxiety doesn't warrant any actual help anyway.

I'm so glad they could diagnose me with such certainty. I'd have hated to go through anything unnecessary like a blood test..

The periodic agonising pain in the area of my gallbladder is due to depression. My antidepressants have completely cured it so long as I don't eat fried fatty foods. It's a miracle 😁

Oh yes!

Crushing fatigue, migraines, red swollen joints, sausage fingers, weird hives rashes -"Heres a prescription for anxiety meds, I'm referring you to the local psychiatric hospital for Behavioural Therapy.."

(12 months later) "I dont accept these private bloods you've had done or this diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis by a highly qualified and respected rheumatologist. You have Health Anxiety, I dont want to see you again about this as I've done all I can do!"

Well gee thank you so much for the reassurance, me and my rotted joints will just keep 'cracking on' (pun intended)

Pleasetakeaseat · 19/06/2024 07:43

Ditto that for asthma... "Panic attacks! You're not taking the anxiety meds are you?! Do you Want to be better or not??"

TigerRag · 19/06/2024 07:45

I was told my vertigo was anxiety. We'll just ignore the fact that my symptoms started after headbutting the pavement

Comedycook · 19/06/2024 07:47

I think it's like that if you're fat. Every health problem is put down to that...
