Has anyone been down this route to become a social worker? I have an interview tomorrow (!!) for social work degree apprenticeship but absolutely always fall to bits in interviews!! If anyone has any idea of what they might ask at interview, please fill me in!!

Thanks 🙏

Social work lecturer here! We want to hear that you have considered the BASW code of ethics and are aware of the SWE professional standards...and be able to give examples of how you meet these. Think about why social work and why now, an example of when you helped someone and what the outcome was, what diversity means to you. Also what do you think people value in their social worker....what attributes. If you have a group task, be respectful to others but have your say.

Try and have examples at hand, so when you're asked a question you have something ready to evidence your thinking. Good luck!!

Hi, I know this thread is quite old but I was just wondering what experience you had prior to the apprenticeship and how you linked it in?

thank you! x

Hi @ForTealViewer, my previous experience was in children’s mental health services and the social worker role is in adult social care so different sectors completely, although there was some crossover between children’s mental health and children’s social care at least in my previous role.

I think I mainly linked transferable skills such as active listening, good communication skills, empathy, multi agency working etc that sort of stuff.

I had experience of managing risk and creating risk management plans, assisting in assessments and holding a case load in my previous job so just spouted crap about being able to manage my own diary and time effectively bla bla bla all the usual stuff you’d say 😅
