Can you take children to your notice of marriage appointment?

I can’t get through to the council to check 😭 and our childcare has fallen through, meaning we have nobody to have our 2 young children for the appointment we have this week. Does anyone know the answer to this?

I don't see why not. It's literally just showing documents to prove id. How old are they as I assume if they're likely to be screaming and messing about then obviously they aren't going to like that

Our appointment involved going in separately and the other waiting in the hallway. So there wouldn't have been an issue with the kids waiting outside with one parent. Even if you both went into different rooms at the same time, I don't think each taking one child would be a problem. Maybe call and check what the procedure is?

We took our DD in a pushchair, it was fine!

We went last week and took our 5 month old. They said it was fine as you are spoken to separately.

I think they just prefer you not to so there's no disturbances but if you have no choice they won't turn you away x

Thank you so much! I tried calling all morning, it was just automated service every avenue I took 😓 no matter what option I pressed, it just never took me to a human. Rather frustrating! Really hoping they’re fine with us bringing them tomorrow 🤞🏻

Thank you for commenting. I’m genuinely going to bribe the shit out of my kids 😂 they’re 2 and 4 but will be strapping them into our double pram and giving them headphones with a film/program on our phones 🫠

We gave ours with our 2 children, it was fine, they just sat on our knees and then went with the other parent while they spoke to us separately

I’m about to do anything to make my 2 be the stillest and quietest they’ve ever been 😂

It never even crossed my mind to ask tbh,
It's like when I registered the birth of my youngest i had to take the eldest with me

Mamabear487 · 07/05/2025 07:20

What was the outcome were you okay taking them with you? I’ve got mine soon and no childcare!

Cherrycola4 · 07/05/2025 07:23

We had to leave our nine year old in the very rough council building waiting room, only for a few minutes though. We had to go in separately at first and then both of us together. They were very strict about no children in the appointment.

Sorry I’m so late to this! But yes we took both of ours, was no problem at all. Just had to juggle them slightly when we were being “interviewed” separelt for parts 😂

I took the little boy I nannied (with his mum's permission, easier than taking a morning off) and when we arrived they asked if we were there to register his birth - he was about 11months at the time and on the 99th centile too 😂
