Anyone else finding these BBC News graphics offputting?

The BBC news app has started using these red images to denote "in depth" articles. I've noticed that I find the colour really offputting and scroll quickly on by without even reading the headline. Just me?

I find them a bit scary. Like the bit in Watership Down. (Still traumatised)

I assumed they were all articles about Palestine when I first saw them. They are the colours of the Palestine flag.

Reds the colour of danger and action; that's why notifications on your phone are red. That's why they've used it.

The colour says war and conflict, but they're using the same colour for all in-depth coverage. One of the articles in my pic is about science.

Yes...because what do you do with a red notification on your phone? You feel compelled to click into it.

mrscee · 18/06/2024 08:20

It makes me avoid reading them because of the red!

Saisong · 18/06/2024 08:22

I agree, I don't like them. Not exactly sure why but I def have a negative reaction to the colours/format.

Metempsychosis · 18/06/2024 08:31

I agree. I don't consciously avoid reading them but my eyes just flick right over them for some reason.

uptoerly · 18/06/2024 08:31

To me, "in depth" means sitting down comfortably with a cup of coffee for a longer read. But the red says "danger, warning, high alert". The two moods are incompatible. 🙃

Since the one I'm seeing has Farage's picture on it, then red would seem appropriate! navigates away

Mischance · 18/06/2024 23:18

I am glad you brought this up .... it means I am not the only grumpy git who thinks they are horrible.
Also I think that a colour wash superimposed on a black and white pic is lazy design.

Enoughwiththisshit · 18/06/2024 23:19

I agree, OP - they really put me off.
