…. How do you like to shop?

as in, do you favour sellers who sell individual items for low amount? Clothing bundles - the bigger the better? Small sets, like 3 dino t shirts or 2 pairs of shorts in different colours?

Do you only look for New/ New without tags or are you also buying used stuff? How much wear and tear are you willing to accept provided this is reflected in the price of course.

Please share all your thoughts on this to help me upload my stuff in the most helpful way for potential buyers. Thank you!

I like fair prices, and bundle discounts. I've seen many sellers selling items at practically the same it was to buy it in the first place.

I like pre-made bundles eg 3 dresses etc. Postage and buyer protection fee make buying individually quite expensive

I only use Vinted to buy items from premium brands like Jojo or Boden etc. Usually I look for something specific like jumpers or coats from those brands in the sizes I want. Usually the total cost is say a third or less of the full price, and the items wear well because they're higher quality.
I find it difficult to find bundles where I like most of it, which is just me being fussy really.
If I want lots of the same type of clothes, for example for nursery, I usually just buy new from George at Asda or Nutmeg at Morrisons, since I find it basically works out the same as those clothes from Vinted, and they're new.

This! I won't buy it if they don't have anything else I want, unless I really love the item. Sell good quality items in similar age ranges. Also price accurately, don't just think about what you will make, think about Vinted's fee and postage too. Too many sellers ask for close to the actual purchase price new when this is all factored in. Second hand clothes in great condition should be at least 60% off RRP in my opinion.

I prefer 'new' or 'very good' condition, however, some people's definition of 'very good' is laughable. If it has a permanent stain, even if it's otherwise mint, it's no longer in 'very good' condition. Same goes for bobbling and colour faded items, being described as 'very good'. Especially, when they put it in the description. So long story short, describe your clothes accurately. If it has been worn twice and washed with colour safe detergent then it may still be 'very good'. If it's bobbled, stained or has been washed and worn lots then it's 'good' at best.

This. I want to buy multiple items in int in… not just an odd item here and there and keep paying postage.

PandaRice · 18/06/2024 02:23

I also won’t buy anything that looks very used, well worn. With holes in or stains.

The amount of absolute trash on there is ridiculous. People trying to get rid of jeans with holes in. Just bin them.

Merrow · 18/06/2024 02:31

I don't like buying bundles as there's too much I don't like. I usually am searching for something b quite specific (e.g. recently "star wars t shirt") and I'll ideally get a few things from the same seller to save on postage. If I'm browsing for something like a new coat I'll filter by brands I like. I add lots of things to favourites and ideally I'll be offered a lower price from the seller.

ClonedSquare · 18/06/2024 06:35

I buy and sell a lot of kids stuff on Vinted.

I find for clothes that were cheap originally, you need to bundle. So if it's a supermarket brand or Next/M&S/John Lewis standard ranges, I do bundles of 5 t shirts or whatever.

For individual "striking" items (eg t shirts, dresses, patterned trousers, coats), if they're a "brand" or have a stand out unique pattern, they can sell individually for around £4-8.

For boring basic stuff like trousers, plain tops, vests etc I've always found you have to bundle them and expect about £1 per item or less.

People can make bundles out of your individually listed items, but I find a lot of people don't do that. So people buy the odd individual item, leaving you with not enough items to interest someone who makes bundles. Much easier to just bundle them yourself. Like I said, keep the “unique” items out of bundles though, as people are more picky about them. Just bundle things that are either very generic (eg trousers in neutral colours) or very similar style wise (eg two same brand tops with similar patterns, several striped t shirts etc).

This a million times especially if they give 10-20% discount for a bundle too. It's the postage which I find makes me not buy stuff especially as Inpost is very bad in my area with lockers down/full etc so it's better to get stuff either posted home or to a nearby shop which often costs more.

ViaRia01 · 18/06/2024 07:12

Thats great, thanks everyone.

I’ve had a few bundles listed for a while at much less than £1 per item, mid range stuff but in good condition. Clearly they’re not shifting so either price is too high or the bundles are the issue.

I’m planning to do a big sort out this evening and list lots on vinted so o think I’ll change approach this time as I’m not in a bit more of a rush to shift these things.

Cuwins · 18/06/2024 07:12

Definitely individual items with good bundle discounts.
I filter for very good condition but partly because any more wear than that and I would probably be able to pick it up on the local freebay group.

Cuwins · 18/06/2024 07:14

I also won't normally buy supermarket or primark stuff as I find that's more expensive than buying new once you add postage. Occasionally I might add something like that to a bundle I was already buying. Mostly buy marks, next etc or things like frugi

ViaRia01 · 18/06/2024 07:15

By the way, as others have said…. I’m not listing damaged items or worn out items, I truly think they’re in good condition.

I'm with TemuSpecialBuy too.
I've never bought bundles put together by the seller past baby sizes (what you've described as having listed in this post), but will create my own from the individually listed items. I do buy just one item at a time too, but only if it is very specialised and/or still very good value once P&P and Vinted's fee have been added.

redskydarknight · 18/06/2024 07:34

For everyday clothes, I prefer bundles as otherwise the postage cost seems disproportionate. And then, it doesn't really matter if there is 1 or 2 things that your DC won't wear as you'll still have a few things. Although the bundle does need to be similar type items e.g. a bundle of plain T shirts and trousers. I don't want to buy a bundle if there are 8 things and I am dubious about most of them.

ConflictofInterest · 18/06/2024 07:56

I wouldn't buy a bundle, especially not at less than a pound an item, I'd assume it was filled with overly worn cotton jersey. I tend to spend around £4 to £10 for a child's item. I wouldn't spend less as the quality wouldn't be likely to be worth the postage cost. I don't just want to fill my kids wardrobes up I want to buy nice things I can't afford new.

TemuSpecialBuy · 18/06/2024 20:12

Wow! Possibly my most compelling and popular post ever 😅😅😅

My philosophy has stood me in good sted for buying and selling. Ive made just under £700 in the last 18m with things id normally have given to charity as ebay is such a faff.

Good luck with the listings @ViaRia01
