What to look at online that isn't depressing?

I'm not on Facebook or Instagram and have had to come off Twitter as it's so toxic and negative and I think causing me to see the world through a really negative lens. What can I look at instead? I know I could just not be on my phone but sometimes I want to mindlessly scroll but without the depression kicking in! Any suggestions? Thanks

Art. Cultivate an interest in art, and if you can bear to rejoin Twittsville I'll tell you some art accounts to follow.
Art is incredibly redemptive and really cleanses the brain of all the other stuff.

Here's one to dip your toe in with. He's an art historian and dealer, posts images with small amounts of info and thought about the artist and the work. You don't need to know anything about art to enjoy this, and you will learn as you go, too.

I watch music videos on You Tube.

What sort of interests do you have OP?
I like a scroll through Rightmove to get ideas for decorating my house or just dreaming of what I'd buy if I won the lottery.

I like sporcle (online quizzes) and notalwaysright.com

I occasionally fall into a tv tropes vortex...

That is wonderful - thank you.

Any other ides for me? I need the curative power of art at the moment.

Google "good news". There is plenty around, it just isn't as profitable for the gutter press and social media so it gets lost amongst the clickbait and doom-mongering.
There are Good News sites on social media too if you search.

I like YouTube.

Simplify your space is an Indian woman who's into decluttering and organising, I find her videos so peaceful.
Discover the horse is an American woman travelling round the world to ride every breed of horse she can find and seems to be having a lot of fun with it.
Kaylyn's coffee talk is a young Canadian mother giving life advice pep talks.

Kittens getting massages and generally being treated like royalty. There are a surprising number of videos on this.

ApothecaryRose · 17/06/2024 13:57

Watch The Old Shop on YouTube. Also Beltaine Cottage.

Hi! So art Twitter accounts to look at. First of all general themed art accounts.

Grim Art (@GrimArtGroup) / X

Rather Good Art (@RatherGoodArt) / X

East London Group (@EastLndonGroup) / X

Alexandra Epps (@ArtGuideAlex) / X

Then some individual artists I am quite fond of.

Ian R. Pearsall (@flowerboxorguk) / X

RCJ Fine Art (@richardmcj) / X

John Ball (@bewarethevoid) / X

Then there are galleries...

Dulwich Picture Gallery (@DulwichGallery) / X

Dulwich Picture Gallery, by the way, is the oldest public art gallery in England, and has regular amazing exhibitions for anyone who wants to see some stuff IRL!

Loads more galleries have social media accounts - Tate, National, etc.

I mean I could sit and do this all day and not run out of stuff! But that'll do for now. Enjoy! 😍

put on Dauchsy meditations on YouTube. He has THE most soothing voice and calms me instantly. He does manifesting and meditation and its such a positive way to spend some time doing something different.

Reddit has some good positive subreddits. Some of my favourites are

r/AccidentalRenaissance
r/ContagiousLaughter
r/Damnthatsinteresting
r/Eyebleach
r/MadeMeSmile
r/NatureIsFuckingLit
r/oddlysatisfying
r/wholesomememes

I like animal videos on YouTube too, both wild animals and domestic ones.

Small children are fun too, there are videos purely full of babies laughing which I find a great mental detox.

Thanks for the replies! I've got no interest in art but maybe I've never really given it a chance.
