Having my loft boarded out and they seem very close to coming to blows. Some examples - I'll shout if I want to. Grow up, dickhead.
You keep getting in my way.
I'll chuck it if I want to.
I'd say if I was wrong.
I'm not going to sit here and take it.
If I was a dick I wouldn't have driven you.
We're here to do a job.

But mostly I can't hear what they're arguing about because they're in the loft. I have to wait for them to come stomping downstairs to catch the next installment.

I feel like I should pay extra for the entertainment 🤣

We had some roof work done and they spoke like this to each other but it was more "banter" are you sure they're actually arguing??

IncompleteSenten · 17/06/2024 12:48

Oh, I didn't think of that. Could be. They sounded cross to me but I'm not good at reading tone tbh.

Blimey, if they are actually arguing that would stress me out a bit. Mainly because I imagine there is a bit of a mood hanging around in the air, which isn't great in your own home!

I would be a bit wary of being caught in the crossfire if the job isn't up to scratch and you have to tell them. After they leave make sure the job has been done OK, I would imagine they might be rushing a bit or not concentrating if they are actually having a bit of a tiff.

Try living with them!

LoobyDoop2 · 17/06/2024 12:51

I’d be worried about the quality of the work they’re producing mid-argument, and also that if it gets worse and gets physical, your house could catch the fallout.

If they come through the ceiling, you know it's escalated.

Two painters we had in the house last year had what sounded like quite a serious argument at one point (couldn't tell because they were shouting in their native Polish). I was WFH, checked out of my meeting and went and told them to keep it down, this was my workplace as well as theirs, and I wasn't prepared to deal with such unprofessional behaviour, far less have it in the background of my meetings. They apologised later.

Yell "keep it down, I'm busy down here!"

Treesaleaving · 17/06/2024 13:04

It happens sometimes, I had some carpet fitters cut landing carpet to the wrong size. I could hear them muttering from my work room and DP who was downstairs could hear them arguing about who was going to confess. The bloke who did the duff cutting was forced to tell that they had to come back. The guy who made the error never came back and the other one told me they'd had a big argument in the pub and he'd called in sick. They were charged by the shop for the carpet so I felt a bit sorry for them.

I suppose if you work together day in day out you're bound to get on each others nerves from time to time

One of them has stormed off and left and the others have calmed right down and are working.

I'm assuming he's not left left, maybe he's gone for lunch or something.

This is common tradie chat, DP comes home with stories that absolutely horrify and amuse me in equal measures Grin
