I'm going to Oz in July and did have same dilemma....I've now ordered some Emma Bridgwater mugs to take over.
Others suggested shortbread, M&S biscuits in tin, tea towels with a British recipe on it or some local pottery pieces.

Sunshineonasameyday · 16/06/2024 21:18

My family always ask for - flavoured crisps (especially pickled onion), marmite and dairy milk.

ThunderQween · 16/06/2024 21:19

Marmite.
Shortbread?
Tea bags
Do they have nandos in the US? If not those nando sauces are good

GMH1974 · 16/06/2024 21:26

When my son went to stay with friends in Italy, friends in Switzerland and friends in Cyprus he took the parents a book of art from Kew Gardens. Theres a gallery there devoted to an artist who was called Marianne North. She painted brightly coloured plant pictures. Each time he took this coffee table book and a Kew Gardens tote bag.

This would be my suggestion too! Along with proper chocolate biscuits.

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 16/06/2024 21:28

It depends whether they're ex pats? You'd look very random taking Marmite and McVities if they've never set foot in the UK.

Whiskey for the men always goes down well when we visit.

Autumcolors · 16/06/2024 21:28

Crumpets
Caramel Mcvities
Cadbury Crunchie chocolate
some lovely tea towels

Floralnomad · 16/06/2024 21:28

Fortune and Mason biscuits , the selection in the green tin specifically and F&M tea towels .

mitogoshi · 16/06/2024 21:29

I always had mum bring me crunchies. In all honesty you can buy British food easily in cities at least. If you don't know much about them opt for things like a tea towel, shortbread or other touristy items

MeinKraft · 16/06/2024 21:31

Maybe something from Very British Problems?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/06/2024 21:32

Yorkshire Tea
Marmite
Cadbury's chocolate
Hebdereon's Relish (probably a S Yorks thing)

msbevvy · 16/06/2024 21:34

Not everyone's cup of tea but I would love Lego that is exclusive to the London shop.

Talking of tea, unlike previous posters I find Yorkshire Tea vile. Maybe it doesn't suit the water in London

I agree about Marmite but do you know if they would appreciate it?

Synergies · 16/06/2024 21:34

Tunnock's are always appreciated

StayGoldAgain · 16/06/2024 21:34

We're expats in upstate NY. Yorkshire tea bags, mcvities digestives, shortbread, all readily available.

My American friends ask for hob nobs, pickled onion monster munch and cadbury flakes when we visit home. Plus anything with a royal connection, cups, saucers, napkins, tea towels with British related motifs.

littlebox · 16/06/2024 21:35

If the videos in my Facebook feed are anything to go by, apparently Americans are surprisingly impressed by a chocolate orange!

Champagnebar · 16/06/2024 21:39

Wow - thanks for all the replies ! I knew this was the place to ask.

All ( but one) are Californian born and bred so don’t ‘miss’ British foods - and I know that two tried Marmite when visiting me in UK and HATED it :)

However I think I’ll get a stock of good tea bags and choc oranges. Mcvities choc digestives will be a good call for some too

Thanks again 🤣

If you have your own photos of some tourists attractions or interesting places in your city, you can make a picture calendar with these photos. Bonus points if you also add birthdays and important days like anniversaries to the calendar, so that it would be even more personal.
