Boots nor Superdrug couldn't diagnose this, maybe one of you can?

I've got this rash that doesn't go away even after finishing the treatment. (It comes and goes). It spread to my face at times and right now I can feel how half my face is getting dry and my eye is throbbing. Have called 111 hoping I'll get seen but not hopeful.

You need to push for dermatology appointment. Dd had a rash and had to go backwards and forwards for ages to go before getting referral- included bleeding nipples. Eventually diagnosed with allergy to various metals- found in most make ups, hair clips etc.

Lostinbrum · 16/06/2024 20:44

I had a similar rash on my elbows and around my eyes, I have a gluten intolerance and wasn't being very strict in keeping it out my diet. Went back to avoiding it and it went away

Georgethecat1 · 16/06/2024 20:45

Have you kept a food diary? I have bad allergies with anything airborne and developed some food allergies. I would try cutting out dairy and wheat for a week or two as an easy one to try?

Lots of people with autoimmune conditions get rashes like this linked to food consumption.

Because of my iron deficiency I've been tested for coeliac a few times, always negative. Wouldn't it had shown then? My diet hasn't changed and I tend to always eat the same

Psoriasis.
Have exactly the same thing in the same places..plus others. Hard to shift, needs plenty of very neutral moisturiser such as "double base".
Often comes on because of stress. Occasionally gets bad and needs steroids to be manageable.

It's not that neutral. Doublebase contains a salicyclate (Trolamine) - which is a PITA and everywhere else you put it - if you're allergic to NSAIDs/aspirin.

Anything containing wintergreen is also a salicyclate.

Are you trans? Women’s health and men’s are different

Why would you have reached that conclusion? I'm not BTW!

My mum had a very similar rash which flared up at unpredictable intervals, around her neck, eyes, arms, back... just about anywhere. Tried the usual E45, Aveeno, etc, and only Eumovate made any impression on it (but you're not meant to use it long term). GP had no idea.

She ended up trying a cream she found advertised online, made by Smiles and Joys:

It looks like a really dodgy website/product, but it's been absolutely transformative for her. I just asked for details and explained why and she said "tell them it is brilliant!" (and she's not one to exaggerate!)

She hasn't had a flare up for months so it's certainly done the trick for her.

The lump in the front of your neck, if you’re trans or not it doesn’t matter to me, but women’s health is different.

Well actually now that you say it .. that's my thyroid! So maybe it is swollen and could be linked to my hypothyroidism.

A long shot - but on the off-chance get someone to check you for headlice in case you have them and are having a reaction to them. I think if that was the case then your eye would perhaps be something different.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 16/06/2024 21:24

Psoriasis I think. It's autoimmune which youre vulnerable to with your hypothyroidism.

ismu · 16/06/2024 21:32

I would go to the GP and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. If you have a thyroid condition any facial rashes should be investigated for the possibility of lupus.

Elsbetka · 16/06/2024 21:45

The plethora of potential explanations on here is a good example of why you should go back and badger the GP, I think - there are so many things it could be!

When I've had a similar rash in the past, it's turned out to be a sensitivity to washing powder - I now stick to Fairy non-bio.

Other likely contenders: nickel (earrings/eyelash curlers/necklace), or latex foam or feathers (pillow).

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/06/2024 21:51

Pantene does that to my face and neck

hobbledyhoy · 16/06/2024 21:51

@Lostinbrum
This is interesting, I wondered if I may have something similar as I have patches on my elbows and legs and now it seems to be near my chin. How did you manage to confirm it was gluten sensitivity?

I had horrendous skin when I was low in iron, around my eyes as well. Kept coming back until I started tablets.

Pinkypup · 16/06/2024 22:01

You weren’t sterilised using essure were you?

I should be ok for iron, I had an infusion in March (they last 9 months).

I have a copper coil in case it's relevant

I don’t know about the coil.

only reason I asked about essure is it’s causing a lot of women (inc me) all sorts of problems - one of them being random rashes.

olympicsrock · 16/06/2024 22:08

The neck looks like dermatitis - could be allergy. Could be a polymorphous light eruption ie the skin produces histamines triggered by sunlight. Perhaps you have not put suncream on that part of the neck.

The eye just looks like dry skin.

She clearly said she thought it could be peri menopause at the start, very hard to imagine why you asked this!

iloveroastpotatoes · 16/06/2024 23:50

In the last few years I developed itchy, sore patches in my ears, my eyelids and under my eyes. My GP diagnosed it as seborrheic dermatitis and advised using Nizoral shampoo on the affected areas as the active ingredient helps. It's definitely helped mine, might be worth a try?
