I'm so much pain. Is this normal? Pic warning!

I've had this wound for about 9 weeks now

It just won't heal, never has. My feet are soft and healthy

One day I just seemed to wake up with this slit under my toe

It hurts when I walk and plasters don't help if I use them Sad

Is it normal for a wound to take many months to heal?

are you diabetic?

I would show it to a pharmacist

OhHelloMiss · 15/06/2024 23:06

Is there something in there?

Is the nail from your little toe:digging in?

minor injuries unit anywhere near?

GennyLec · 15/06/2024 23:11

You must show that to a medic.

Non healing wounds really need extra care.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/06/2024 23:12

Is the toenail from your little toe digging into it and stopping it healing?

It's not normal for something to take thaft long to heal, no - so there must be something stopping it. Maybe something external keeping the wound open, some sort of foreign body in the wound stopping it closing up (sure there's no glass or something in it?) or something biological that's stopping the healing process.

Deebee90 · 15/06/2024 23:13

Looks like an open ulcer?

Allenetall · 15/06/2024 23:13

It looks like the nail on your little toe is catching it!

Jellycats4life · 15/06/2024 23:15

It’s very wide open, isn’t it? That definitely needs looking at.

Durdledore · 15/06/2024 23:18

Could be fungal infection in there - thrush in a wound will stop it healing. I had something similar once but in my nipple as a result of breast feeding - antibiotics weren’t helping but in the end the doc treated it with fluconozole (for thrush) as well and it cleared up quickly then.

Whatever it is, you’ve done the watch and wait method and now you need to get medical treatment as it’s not healing, is it.

moneyinthebinthatsmrtim · 15/06/2024 23:22

Okay so it's not a nail digging in (just looks that way from where I've held the toe to take the picture)

It's in the crease if you see what I mean and no nails touching it

I thought I was being ridiculous seeing a GP for a cut Blush

I don’t want to scare you but I’d get it checked out. My friend had a bit that wouldn’t heal on her ear and she’s now had it partly removed as it was skin cancer. It seems much more unlikely on your foot but either way I’d see a GP. My dad had a similar thing on his finger and his wasn’t cancerous but they stitched it for him. It had a special name which I forget now :)
how did it first get there?

CJ0374 · 15/06/2024 23:27

Are you anaemic or have another deficiency?

Jellycats4life · 15/06/2024 23:28

Infection is a good call actually. I’d be wary about slapping an anti fungal cream onto an open wound so personally I’d still want to see a GP (a very painful open wound that won’t heal is a very valid reason for an appointment!) but I suspect an infection might be preventing it from healing.

When my son was a toddler he had a cut on his palm that wouldn’t heal, and antibiotic cream fixed it. But it didn’t look obviously infected to the untrained eye (no pus, redness etc).

Enoughwiththisshit · 15/06/2024 23:32

I get these in the crease of exactly the same toe! Takes bloody ages to heal. I've also got one in the corner of my nostril right now. I'm also prone to angular cheilitis.

For me, it seems to be related to stress. Lamisil Once helps my toe, so it's probably fungal.

allthelittleangelsriseupriseup · 15/06/2024 23:45

I'd say fungal infection too - I used to get splits in the crease of my toe all the time when I was a kid reason was my dad who had raging athlete's foot, wouldn't treat it and managed to re infect the rest of the family again and again.
I'd agree that you need to get it checked out by the doc though first.

BiancaBlue · 16/06/2024 00:23

Definitely one for your GP

cestlavielife · 16/06/2024 00:26

Send the pic on e consult to your GP

efeslight · 16/06/2024 00:50

I get these occasionally, possibly athletes foot. After having a bath or shower, always dry it with a hair dryer, exposing it like you have to take the photo.

Sorry for the ridiculous link! These won’t cure it but will make your foot a lot more comfortable. I actually do have a nail on my bent little toe that digs into the next toe and these stop it hurting completely. If you take the pressure off this might allow it enough time to heel.
