Is a wheezy/whistling cough normal or does that mean asthma?

For the last couple of years whenever I cough due to a viral illness like cold/flu it can sound quite wheezy with a high pitched whistling sound. I've never had that before, it started after I caught COVID.

Does it sound like I could have developed asthma? I'm not sure whether to go to the doctors about it or not. I'm young (30) and otherwise healthy

It might be asthma, or it might be some inflammation / tightening due to another reason. Do you feel short of breath when it happens?

Probably a good idea to get it checked out if you’re concerned

best see a doctor- i think it is unlikely to be asthma, but if it is, you should have medication ready and know how to use it is a severe attack - asthma kills

If it’s only when you’re ill, it sounds like you just have a wheezy cough. That said, I’m asthmatic and I don’t necessarily even wheeze when I’m ill. But I still have asthma. How do you feel when you don’t have a cold/cough?
