Scary poo symptoms!! *TMI and panicking*

I'm freaking out this morning.

I've had hard and dry bowel movements for about a week now.
For the past few days, I was having bright red blood and pain as the poo came out (like a stabbing).

Half my poo has been hard this morning and half has been really soft - it looks like there is blood in the soft poo (although I'm not sure if it could've just got on that on its way out?)

And more concerning, there's a liquid in my underwear from my bum. It's not faeces, it doesn't smell of much but it's not pleasant.

Can anyone help?! I'm terrified of this stuff. I thought it was a fissure but with the blood being in the poo in the toilet and the liquid then I'm freaking out.

Blood in poo = doctors.

EmmasDilemmas · 14/06/2024 06:36

Agree worth seeing a doctor but also try not to panic - given what you have said about very dry and hard poo, this could all be due to constipation and the difficulty in passing these stools.

Girlintheframe · 14/06/2024 06:38

The blood has probably come from straining to go to the toilet esp if it's bright red. Increase your water intake and maybe try a stool softener like dulcoease, but also worthwhile seeing your GP.

There is a mucus like substance in your bowel that helps move things along. That could be what was in your underwear. If your stool has been dry and hard, it's not as likely to mix with the mucus, so less like to be brown like it normally would. If the blood is red, it's probably from the rectum - it would be much darker or a tar like colour if it were from your stomach/bowel. So I wouldn't panic too much. It could simply be constipation, but I would definitely book in to see your GP just to be on the safe side.

@Girlintheframe I've been given Laxido earlier this week but I was reluctant to take laxatives for the first time considering I'm still going every day and have never had them!

I took one sachet for the first time yesterday.

The liquid is likely discharge from fissures. Fissures are likely the cause of bloody stools. Constipation likely the cause of the fissures. Don't panic, and see your GP.

holbys · 14/06/2024 07:22

@BiancaBlue any idea what the GP will do? Should I be expecting to have my bumhole examined? Hmm

Take the laxatives. Your poo needs to be soft. Yes you can bleed from fissures. If there is still blood a few days after its soft see the GP.

holbys · 14/06/2024 08:14

@kivas yes, I'll continue taking them! The taste is rotten though Blush

Do you suffer from piles? They can create mucus which might be the other liquid you saw. Definitely see the doctor but there are many many less serious conditions that could have caused it than the sinister ones that you're probably thinking of right now.

holbys · 14/06/2024 08:39

@sadmum27 I've never had an external pile before, not sure about internal!

They should check for piles, look for fissures, talk about diet and come up with a plan to prevent it happening again.

stargazer02 · 14/06/2024 14:51

We mix my daughter's laxido with apple juice and split her daily dose through the day - mix it in the AM and she has half then and half in evening.

You need to drink a lot with it. Have a bottle of water to hand and sip all through the day.

She hasn't had mucus or blood but I know that's common with constipation. The fact the second part was soft is a very good sign. You'll need to keep upping the dose but take it slow and spread it through the day.

Mynewnameis · 14/06/2024 14:52

The first bum examination is the worst..
Yellow metanium or sudacrem on the fissure.

KennaThomas · 14/06/2024 14:55

So people can still be constipated EVEN though they have regular bowel movements. Your hard dry poop indicates constipation. And the fact that you've had very hard poop followed by the softer ones today shows this was definitely constipation.

You may have internal haemorrhoids too and or fissure.

Take the laxative! Drink it with a straw to bypass the majority of your taste buds.

I would encourage you speak to the GP about the blood so they can just do a poop sample test to rule out cancer/inflammation.

Just adding a disclaimer that it's highly unlikely to be cancer.

Yes I agree.

Highly unlikely but this is still a red flag and requires the poop test.

We don't know anything else about OP medical history/age/family history.

Blood in stools are a red flag and as such requires a chat with the GP at the very least.

I did. At hospital. 🥹
My GP didn’t. It was just a bug. But I took Imodium and basically kept the bug inside me. It’s best to let it all out!

I have a sensitive stomach or bowel I don’t know, often has blood with diarrhoea. It’s stopped happening and I’ve gotten older strangely.
