What is this pain

When this goes away I’ll never moan again.

Started about 3 this afternoon. Few niggly stomach pains which have since turned into me needing to curl up in a ball due the amount of pain I’m in. Kind of feels like my insides are turning inside out. It seems to be coming in waves. The pain is at the top of my stomach. Also getting the pain in my upper back. I don’t feel sick and haven’t been sick so I really don’t think it’s a bug. The pain in constant but definitely worsens when I move or walk

It was that bad before that I phoned dp crying because I was in that much pain and I didn’t know what it was and was scared. It’s certainly something I’ve never experienced before. Worst pain ever. Really hoping I get some sleep😕

Yep, another vote for gallstones here too! I developed them from pregnancy. Absolutely horrendous pain.

BusterGonad · 14/06/2024 03:25

BusterGonad · 14/06/2024 03:55

That was meant to say 'restriction maybe'.

I had this once for 12 hours. Absolute agony. My stomach felt solid. Ended up vomiting. Eventually went home and was okay but weak. I was at a festival and seen in the A&E tent. They probably should have sent me to hospital. Anyway I was find in the end just to reassure you it can pass.

gymgoals2024 · 14/06/2024 04:50

I think it was eating a burger that triggered mine.

CalicoPusscat · 14/06/2024 05:12

Did they keep you in @summerOnes?

If so hopefully you got some sleep at least.

What have they advised for ongoing management?

The problem with gallstones is they don't get better by themselves. So usually you are advised to manage diet until you can have the gallbladder removed or sometimes the stones broken up.

Generally speaking high fat foods tend to be a trigger, they cause the gallbladder to produce more bile which makes it more likely that a stone will shift into a bad position and cause pain.

cocktails4two · 14/06/2024 10:38

Gallstones is the worst pain imaginable. I had them for 18 months, went through pregnancy with them. Had an awful attack at 37 weeks and had to be induced early so they could manage my pain.
I had my gallbladder removed in February and can honestly say it changed my life. Stick to a very low/non fat diet OP to try to manage it in the meantime and get on the list for removal ASAP. I really don't envy you xxx

familyissues12345 · 14/06/2024 11:26

Oh yes, gallstones. Flipping evil things!

CalicoPusscat · 14/06/2024 12:52

How did they leave it last night?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/06/2024 12:55

I hope they have come up with a plan for ongoing treatment
They advise a low fat diet until surgery.
My friend recently had hers out( overnight stay, privately)

Nat6999 · 15/06/2024 02:32

Invest in some Buscopan & speak to your GP for some good pain relief & anti sickness stuff while you are waiting to be seen by a consultant. Ask about NHS choose & book, you may get seen quicker in a private hospital under the NHS.

coxesorangepippin · 15/06/2024 03:08

Good to hear your update, ugh what a time of it you've had

Mali133 · 15/06/2024 03:56

Get your gallbladder out!! It was the best thing I ever did. I suffered from gallstones for about 3 years, and I can't even begin to explain the pain. It was so bad on one occasion when I was out shopping in my local village that I collapsed and an ambulance was called. I waited for a year to hear back from the hospital with an appointment to have it removed, but this kept getting pushed back due to covid, so I ended up paying to go private to have it out. It was a really quick procedure, and so was the recovery. Even living on a fat-free diet didn't help me. It would flare up at any time. I was too afraid to go on holiday or leave the house in case it happened again. I feel for you. It's the absolute worst. Highly recommend buscopan though for flare ups and strong painkillers and drinking plenty of water too.

I’ve found eating little and more often helps. Also not eating after about 6 pm. No idea why but eating in the evening always brings on the pain.

Did they scan you to be 100% certain ?

This is out of curiosity but would a scan show that it was swollen @Allthehorsesintheworld?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 15/06/2024 16:29

A scan would show the gallstones, where they are and how much “ sludge” there is. The sludge is like grains of stones if that makes sense. On my scan I could see loads of sludge and various sized stones. Sorry, I never thought to ask if my gallbladder was enlarged.

TheQuietOneWithBadHair · 16/06/2024 19:18

My distended gallbladder showed up on ultrasound

superplumb · 17/06/2024 07:22

Hope you're doing OK op.
Out of interest if low fat helps why does losing weight quickly trigger gall stones?

When you don't eat for a long period of time or lose weight quickly, your liver releases extra cholesterol into the bile. Fast weight loss can prevent the gallbladder from emptying properly.
