Would you go to the gp for this?

Essentially I’m getting a form of cold/mild flu type virus every 4-6 weeks. Runny nose, swollen throat etc. in the last 9 ish months I honestly have had 8-9 colds/sore throats!

Often with headache / tiredness too.

just feel silly if I go and they tell me it’s just a cold?

im often very tired even when I don’t have one of these ‘viruses’ also

ahyoje else been in the same boat? Should I ask for bloods could be a vitamin deficiency or something?

it’s persistent, I would book in a health check. A blood test takes no time at all.

AnnaMagnani · 13/06/2024 18:42

Do you have children and if so how old are they?

If you have little kids this is unfortunately normal as they find every germ in the neighbourhood.

Yes

I have 2 dc but I’m ill much more frequently than they are lol! Plus it’s only started in the 9 months really and they’re in primary so I was never this ill when they were small babies in nursery with all the germs!

Worth a check up - Vitamin check and to talk about possible allergies…

Lokshen · 13/06/2024 18:56

Maybe do your own health MOT first? Are you a healthy weight, take enough exercise, get enough sleep, good diet with mix of veggies and protein for vitamin, Vit D supplement in winter.

mycatsanutter · 13/06/2024 18:56

Yes they can order any necessary blood tests

SpringKitten · 13/06/2024 18:59

No I wouldn’t bother. If you got past the savage gatekeeper on reception our local gp practice would not give you an appointment for at least 3 weeks and would tell you nothing is wrong when you got there.

I’d self- treat with plenty of vitamins, rest, probiotics and gentle exercise

cockermum01 · 13/06/2024 19:04

I’m a healthy weight. Definitely could eat a little better though and exercise more.

I would say not enough sleep due to 2 kids on opposite sleep schedules (ones a night owl ones an early bird!) at least one of which will wake me up most nights even now 😅

Hello - an update

so I had a blood test for this on Friday and today have already had a message saying repeat test needed on full blood count…

still awaiting results/review of the other tests

i rang the gp for more info and the receptionist could tell me nothing and just ‘you need another test’ no idea why so now I’m panicking

is it normal to need a repeat?

Yes occasionally, maybe your are anaemic, I normally get a message to say repeat bloods but usually in 3 months after supplementation, I wouldn't panic too much hopefully all be sorted once you speak too someone.

downwithmaterialistdogma · 24/06/2024 18:05

Sometimes the sample gets spoiled, reacts with the preservative or they didn't fill the bottle up enough.

Mysa74 · 24/06/2024 18:06

I wouldn't worry too much OP, the sample in the FBC tube might have clotted. It's not unusual.

bettybyebye · 24/06/2024 18:09

This happened to me and it turned out I have an underactive thyroid

PoopingAllTheWay · 24/06/2024 19:26

Have you got the NHS App? It will tell you what the results are
