Very difficult to get antidepressants for an under 18. Need to be prescribed by a psychiatrist. Worth a try for the 18 year old however.

They didn't help for me personally.

Does any medication help at all?

It does for me. Ive been on them since young age. I can be fine for many many months ( and can not need them) but can feel everything getting on top of me from everywhere and i have to restart.

That is very young for anti depressants.

Environmental factors, time to decompress, lots of self-care measures are helpful.

Luke Beardon has some good books on it.

Why the focus on medication?
If they have adhd, there is medication that can help with the racing thoughts.

I was put on them at 13. I don’t know for certain that I am autistic but strongly suspect it.

They did help.

It will depend on the person, there’s no one fits all solution really, for me it just takes me time and actively trying to get well, trying to eat right, trying to get outside etc and baby steps, as they’re under 18 this is probably going to be best for dm/them to have a convo with the doctor about.

Hard to say for teenagers. But I am on and off them and they do help smooth out the lows a bit and give me a bit of space to feel “capable” again.
