Is it worth visiting Diddly Squat Farm Shop?

Tempted to go but know it will be heaving. Has anyone been and thought it was worth going? Thanks!

The crowds would put me tbh, I want to go but just wondering if there is a quieter time

AdoraBell · 11/06/2024 11:12

I wouldn’t go when it’s heaving with customers/visitors.

Lilothblos · 11/06/2024 11:16

Definitely not, it’s very small and massively overpriced!

DaisyChain505 · 11/06/2024 11:19

You’ll find a quieter setting and just as good/even better produce at any other farm shop.

I suspected as much. Think I'll give it a miss then!

I’m not planning on going but out of curiosity for anyone who has been - are Lisa & Jeremy or any other members of the cast ever actually there?

Badgerstmary · 11/06/2024 12:57

We went & enjoyed it. The queue wasn’t too long & we had a good meal.

A family member loves watching his farm series so I thought I’d treat them to something from his shop. I’m not mean but drew a line at paying for that overpriced stuff.

I'd love to go , but the queues would put me off and the produce isn't cheap ( understandably)
I had a look online at their goods and might buy something at Christmas time.
On the facebook page I go on , people go , but they rarely see the owners or any of the ones that work there and have to wait a while to get into the shop as it's not that big.
Plus it's a three hour plus trip from where I live , so I'll probably never get there !

What? And support that awful, mysoginistic, boorish oaf of a man and his business interests. Nope! Not in a million years...

I understand why people don't like JC , but the programmes are so informative and really taught me a lot I didn't know around farming and keeping large animals and just how hard it is.
As a 'townie ' I always assumed all farmers were wealthy, but clearly they are not. Plus he does admit his other incomes is the only reason they stay afloat at times and the red tape involved is something else , especially around planning permission too.
His done more for farming and issues around it all than any type of programme on tv and I say that as someone largely ignorant of what is involved , just what I've read from people in the know and on Facebook etc.
People don't have to visit the shop or watch the tv show. I found it very entertaining.

Completely agree. He has shed light on the farming industry and raised awareness to actually a frightening situation. He puts on a persona but I enjoy his programme and watching the whole gang. Charlie and Caleb are fabulous, so knowledgeable and I admire them.

For reasons I cannot fathom DD and her 17-19 year old friends drove to Diddly Squat at 1/2 term (probably about a 2 hour round trip on back roads). She made a batch of flapjacks for sustenance.
She queued for 2 hours and spent £12 on a jar of "bee juice", having announced that anything more than £9 was madness (local honey tends to be £6.50 mark).

They couldn't face queuing another hour for a burger so went to Hawkstone Brewery (no queue there).

No doubt they had fun day out, but I think they'll not be returning in a hurry.

Singersong · 11/06/2024 13:36

If you can get there on a weekday then the queues are reasonable and it's enjoyable.

spiderlight · 11/06/2024 13:37

We went because DS was desperate to go and convinced he'd bump into JC and become bosom buddies with him (he's obsessed with 'old' Top Gear). We got there at about 2pm and the queue for the farm shop was already closed for the day. We queued for about half an hour just for the merch stall outside, bought some overpriced honey and an overpriced hat, and that was that apart from DS and his friend sitting in a Jeep that had been on Top Gear. This was two summers ago, though - it might be less busy now.

Like him or not, he’s done more to support and raise awareness of the hardships in British farming than anyone else in recent years

Strawberriesaregoingoff · 11/06/2024 15:00

He's done an incredible job of raising awareness for British farming but omg no way would I go there specifically. I drive past it occasionally and just cannot see the attraction tbh.

BrennanBooth · 11/06/2024 15:04

My father and his wife visited this past weekend and went into the cafe/restaurant bit! They had a great time but didn’t queue for the shop (apparently a 2hour wait) - They did see Kaleb and Lisa though!!

For a bit of fun.

People who have watched and enjoyed the show have seen the products sold in the shop being produced and being able to go there and buy them is nice.

Think of it as a very small scale version of a studio tour and gift shop like the harry potter one. You're able to see in real life what you've seen on the show.

SillySquirrel · 11/06/2024 15:14

We went three years ago after season 1. We didn't queue for the shop as it was 2+ hours to wait, but we had burgers and a drink and enjoyed the nice weather! There as a massive furore all of a sudden and Jeremy himself had turned up! He got a pint and mingled with people, although it was hard work to get anywhere near him. It was alright as a pit stop (we were travelling to Cheltenham) but I wouldn't bother again!
