Somewhere to stay- king's lynn to Nottingham

We will be travelling from King's Lynn to Nottingham with 3 little kids and we're looking for somewhere to stay for a few nights. I am struggling to see a nice location on this route where there are things for children to do. It's a gift so I'm not looking for a travel lodge but more of an experience eg a yurt, glamping, cottage etc. Can anyone recommend somewhere nice around here? Many thanks

Not sure I understand the question. Does ot actually need to be between the 2, or do you just want somewhere near Nottingham?

orangedrizzle · 10/06/2024 13:34

@NoBinturongsHereMate sorry I wasn't clear! We are visiting friends in KL then driving back home to Nottingham. I'd like to find a nice location to stay on this route. I'm not specially looking for hotels, lodges etc rather a recommendation for a nice village, town or area where I can find somewhere myself. Does that make more sense? Very sleep deprived 🤦‍♀️

But actually en route? It's not far, so the choice of locations in between is quite limited.

I'd be inclined to go a little further on and find somewhere on the north Norrfolk coast.

@NoBinturongsHereMate I mean ideally yes! Trying to limit travel time with the kids but I guess if there's no where really nice to stay then I'll have to reconsider my plan.

That’s a two hour drive… can you not just do it in one go? Save yourself £££

orangedrizzle · 10/06/2024 13:45

@MrsKwazi yes I know it's not all that far but I'm trying to tie in a trip away for birthday present. I was hoping to be able to visit our friends, have the birthday trip away on the route home then drive back home to Nottingham.

Hey @orangedrizzle that’s only a couple of hours’ drive tho? I’m from that area and I don’t think that there is anywhere nice worth a few days’ visit en route, sorry. The best I can think of is Rutland Water. Or maybe Stamford, pretty stone town. Not much to do tho.

I agree, round the coast to Heacham or Wells might be a better bet. Heacham a lot closer.

orangedrizzle · 10/06/2024 13:48

@clary thank you! That's useful. I think based on these replies I will have to reconsider my plans!

You don't have to go much further on. Somewhere round Hunstanton or Blakeney would still let you do it all in 1 trip, with the drive home only taking an extra half hour or so.

Ilovemyshed · 10/06/2024 14:12

I'd stop around Rutland Water somewhere.

Sorry posted too soon.... lovely scenery and walks, bike hire and water activities - so it suits everything you want.

I agree, I would head along the N Norfolk coast.

Lovely beaches at Old Hunstanton, Brancaster, Wells.

Holkham near Wells has Holkham Hall with massive deer park. Wells is a cheerful little seaside town with a children’s railway, good for crabbing from the quay

Steam Museum at Thursford, Amazonia Zoo at Cromer,
