Hi all

I'm incredibly fed up after having yet another UTI that has messed things up for me yet again. Therefore can I request your top tips on UTI prevention?

I know a lot of people have success with D mannose but sadly doesn't work for me. Similarly I've actually given up sex because of it as the antibiotics after sex didn't do anything either.

Please do tell me all you weird wonderful and practical suggestions for avoidance.

Thanks in advance!

I had a terrible time with UTIs when I was in a high-stress job. I took tri-cyclical antidepressants (amitriptyline) which did wonders.

After that job finished I stopped taking them. I went back to the standard routine of always weeing after sex, and that was enough to keep them at bay.

Please try eating raw garlic cloves like 5-6 for 3 days. It’s gross I know. I had repeated utis and repeated antibiotics, cranberry juice, d mannose etc. Tried it all. This cured me and I’ve never had one since.

I have managed to avoid UTIs for years by drinking plenty of water, wearing 100% cotton knickers, and always having a wee immediately after sex. I think the last one makes the biggest difference

Thanks @GoldenFern you win the prize for the weirdest one yet with the garlic! I had heard previously it had antibac and immune boosting powers!

@Persianpuss that's great advice thanks. Don't worry about TMI! In fact I think a general squeamishness is why UTIs don't get the coverage they deserve.
What kind of wipes do you use? Baby wipes or similar?

Yes I just use Huggies wipes but you must put them in the bin and not flush them.

Andrex also do wipes for toilet use that are meant to be flushable (but I would never flush them) but they are a lot more expensive.

Hiprex as a preventative. It is an antiseptic rather than an antibiotic.
