I am in Scotland and want SNP out so will be tactically voting for that.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/06/2024 20:51

No. Too complicated.

I like to keep things simple.

(I tactically voted once and STILL woke up to the Tories. It put me off doing it again.)

BeyondMyWits · 09/06/2024 20:52

Here you vote Tories in or Tories out, always has been a 2 horse race... Tory/Lib Dem.

Lib dem don't even bother telling us their policies here, just that a vote for anyone other than them in our constituency keeps the Tories in power.
Don't know who I will vote for.

fungipie · 09/06/2024 20:53

Of course I will. the only thing to do with our ridiculous first past the post system. Not just Tories, but Reform too. All other parties should unite to achieve this. I will vote for whomever will houst the above two.

OnceICaughtACold · 09/06/2024 20:55

No, because I don’t need to, but I happily would if I needed to and I know several people who will!

ilovesooty · 09/06/2024 20:55

I'm in a safe Labour seat with a decent sitting MP. If I were in my former constituency I'd certainly be voting to get the sitting Tory out.

But it wasn't your tactical voting that got the Tories elected in your constituency... It was your idiotic neighbours!

LinksPinks · 09/06/2024 21:08

Nah. Won’t bother. Cos Labour and tories are two sides of the same (unprincipled) coin. Labour unending immigration and cowtowing to the woke and trans brigade. The Tories happily pumping shit into our seas. Take your pick.

Heavenssakes · 09/06/2024 21:14

Of course.
Imo, it would be throwing my vote away, to ignore the likely consequences of voting one way or another.

Who to vote for depends on where you live, what the balance of power is in your own constituency.

This is not ideal: I'd far rather vote for a party I have the most belief in. But that's what you get with FPTP: a crazy, outdated version of democracy, that in the whole of Europe, only us and Belarus still cling to.

ASighMadeOfStone · 09/06/2024 21:14

The algorithm is so repulsed by my sitting MP it says it isn't sure what to suggest other than nuke the place.

No, and I wouldn't be using that website if I did as it spouts gibberish. It applies national polling trends to the results of the last election regardless of changes in who is standing this time around. It completely ignores local data.

If you want an example, look at SW Norfolk the constituency of Liz 'Iceberg' Truss:
https://tactical.vote/south-west-norfolk/

It completely overlooks the emergence of a strong, local independent candidate who has a extremely good chance of unseating her.

There are many more constituencies across the UK where national trends won't apply.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/06/2024 21:17

I was looking on that site yesterday as we’re in a new constituency and it’s all pretty unclear. They can do a best guess at what would have happened here last time but it’s unconvincing. I honestly don’t know what to do. It’s taking up more of my musing time than I like at the moment. I properly love elections but this one is stressful.

Heavenssakes · 09/06/2024 21:30

That Tactical Vote website does seem pretty useless.

Perhaps, go on Electoral Calculus and look up your own constituency.
https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/homepage.html

It's a poll site, widely acknowledged to be one of the more accurate ones. Okay, it's a prediction, so could be wrong, but, unlike the Tactial website, it's bang up to date, and has loads of info.

Always voted Lib Dem as they are usually the only viable alternative to the Tories. But this time I'm voting Labour. I don't really buy into Lib Dems. What do they even stand for? And I feel this year could be the year the change comes.

nobeans · 09/06/2024 21:35

Nah mines too confusing so I'm just going to guess between the two best alternatives

GentlemanJohnny · 09/06/2024 22:18

Yes. Tory seat where Labour go down the pub to celebrate if they hold their deposit.

kanet · 09/06/2024 22:46

That tactical site is not great. It's crude and ignorant. All it does is look at the previous election result and recommend you vote for the 2nd placed candidate last time, if you're in a tory area. It doesn't take into account what has happened in the 5 years since then at all. In my constituency, the LibDem guy has been working at the council, gathering local support etc. He has been very busy in the area over the past 5 years. Whereas the labour guy is just some new guy who nobody knows. But because labour got marginally more than lib dem last time (in the tory seat here), the site recommends voting labour. But actually, the best tactical vote would be lib dem. So watch out if using such a crap tool.

StarryGazeyEyes · 09/06/2024 23:12

I will. Here it's Tory or LD, and the predictions are for it to be very close. I'll also be taking part in Swap My Vote, which makes me feel a bit better about voting LD, knowing that the vote I'd like to cast for Labour is being cast somewhere it can make a difference. Voting Labour here would just hand it to the Tories again.
