Rock through our front door window

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 19:21

I'm feeling really shaky at the moment. A bunch of neighbourhood kids have been harassing us for months. They bang loudly on our front door, broke the glass in the back door, knock branches off our fruit tree and throw rocks at our back fence and front windows.

Today I told them to leave us alone. The result was a rock through the window of our front door and a brick at the bottom.

I have called the police but I don't know what that will do. And I am sitting here worrying that this is my fault somehow for acknowledging the people doing this.

Of course it’s not your fault. You can’t live like that!! We have friends that have been through something like this, not as extreme but enough to be intimidating. The police recommended they get a ring doorbell to catch the perpetrators! I’m not sure what happened after that but it isn’t ongoing anymore x

Sirzy · 09/06/2024 19:26

Do you have cctv/ring doorbell? If not I would try to get one to prove the harassment Your facing.

hope it’s sorted soon

Maddy70 · 09/06/2024 19:26

Call the police

Sirzy · 09/06/2024 19:27

And it’s not your fault at all.

daydreamsandsunbeams · 09/06/2024 19:29

Not your fault at all, that's disgusting behaviour I would call the police you can't be expected to live like that. I would potentially invest in a ring doorbell or similar. I know you shouldn't have to but at least you'd have evidence if they come again.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 19:29

Police coming but they say not until late. I don't care. I will stay up all night if I have to.

Ring doorbell is a good idea.

Tbh, we're one of the few places on our street that hasn't got a Ring doorbell. That may be one reason we were targeted.

Thank you. I am feeling a bit calmer now

TwigTheWonderKid · 09/06/2024 19:34

Do you neighbours opposite have any footage from their doorbell?

BrendaSmall · 09/06/2024 19:36

Get CCTV as ring doorbells don’t always activate when people are too far away

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 19:36

I am not sure but that's also a good idea to check. Thank you.

Sorry you have had this happen to you. As someone with a Ring doorbell and Ring cameras get wired/powered CCTV for continuous recording and something that has lights as well as night vision.

This isn't your fault, they are the arseholes and hopefully this incident will mean the police will go door to door about the incident and they are found. I think I would also consider contacting the local schools about this incident in case they can do an assembly about this sort of behaviour. You need to shine a light on it so to speak, let everyone know what has happened.

RogueFemale · 09/06/2024 19:44

As well as police, try contacting the local authority's anti-social-behaviour team.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 20:00

What's that? I have never heard of those.

OP posts:
ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 20:35

I found it. Can they do anything more than the police could? It doesn't look like it.

OP posts:
ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 20:36

I am also worried about retaliation.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 20:38

From me calling the police that is. Sorry for disjointed posting.

Balloonsand streamers.
That's good advice go beyond the police and inform wider community and hopefully you get the help and support you require.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 20:56

Will we or will we just make it worse? I tried to ignore for a long time because I thought if I did anything it would make things worse.

And today I spoke to them and it did make it worse.

Do you know who the children are? How long have you lived there?

Tootytoot78 · 09/06/2024 21:20

We live next door but one to a ginnel, which youths from miles around use to get to a playing field. We have lived here 17 years, and we have had some anti social behaviour on our estate which was mildly annoying, but not intimidating or scary.
Last summer, the kids (15 /16 ish) started thumping on our door and running either up the ginnel, or down our close, irritating but hey we have all done it as kids.

Then a couple of months ago it escalated to these youths proper booting our door so hard it has actually cracked one of the panels.
It isn't a cheap flimsy door, so I was really pissed off.
Our drive is open with no gates, so we are an easy target.
We never EVER engaged with them, as they want a reaction.
We installed a Dekco security camera (Amazon £40) that's linked to our phones, and luckily got the little (big) twats on film. We rang 101 and explained the situation, they asked if we felt harassed -yes, did we feel targeted -yes. They also said that the cracked door would be listed as criminal damage.

I had rang on a Friday, and on the following Tuesday a the police officer from the anti social behaviour unit called to see us. We downloaded the clips, and he said he was going up to the local comp to see if the kids could be identified. If so, he 'would have a word' with them.

This week has been bliss, kids are still going to the field, still being noisy, that I can deal with. The ones who were on camera have not been anywhere near. Result!

Apologies for the long post, I just want you to know calling 101 does work, I am not the biggest fan of the police, but I have to say we feel as though we have been listened to. The cameras are great for peace of mind, tonight I had my phone next to me, and there were 5 or 6 lads on their bikes mucking about, and one actually rode up our drive, I pressed the really loud alarm on the camera, and I have never seen kids skidaddle as quick!

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 09/06/2024 21:21

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Vile little bastards x

Bulldog01 · 09/06/2024 21:30

Sorry, to read that you have had to experience that behaviour at your home,no one should have to endure that kind of anti social behaviour.
I hope the police, can give you some advice/support.

I feel for you, we moved to our present home 24 months ago. The 1st week, we had our letterbox broken, poultry outside our gate in summer!someone burning something in a barbecue while my husband was fitting a bolt, youths in our garden, Car scratched & damaged on the roof. Rubbish & butt ends thrown near our car.A bad omen was when we parked up on the moving in date in the removal van, a neighbour drove past at speed and smashed the wing mirror and drove off.Lucky for us that the removal guy fixed the mirror!

We have had to have a led light in garden, a ring at the front of the house. We still have these issues. My husband was a policeman for 27 yrs, before we moved here, so it's not like we are easily intimidated.

Someone has got it in for us,no idea why. We are not offensive or loud, I think it's because we care about our home, it seems to bug some people. This is not a great area, houses are cheap, that's why we purchased a house & retired here.As soon as i receive my state pension in 2026,we will hopefully be moving out.We do have some nice neighbours, but sadly with a heavy heart i cannot see us staying here?
Hope things work for out for you!

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 21:45

I don't understand what the aim is when people do stuff like that. DH is home now and boarding up the door which helps me feel better.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 09/06/2024 21:54

I’m so sorry you’re having this trouble, it sounds awful.
No fault on you at all, their behaviour is disgusting.
Hopefully they’re caught on camera and get their just desserts.

ISaySteadyOn · 09/06/2024 22:03

Thank you for the support.
