Nearly 7 has somehow broken her cybex m-fix high back booster so has been sitting on a temporary booster which is uncomfortable.
im not sure how good I thought the cybex seats were.
I can’t remember how we chose last time. I’ve started to look at websites & my brain is just melting.
approx 25kg and 124 cm tall

please just tell me what to buy. Or at least where to start.
there are isofix points.

Britax Kidfix I-size. One of the best scoring high backed boosters for safety in ADAC independent testing. It has a crotch guard to reduce the risk of submarining (slipping under the lap belt in an accident) and a shock absorbing chest pad.

Thank you!
Is there a comparison site or something you’ve used?

We just bought the maxi cosi rodifix pro2. It has the advantage for older children that the sides open up when older to make it wider as well as taller.

We have a BeSafe Flex Fix 2 which our 6 year old (122cm, 21kg) says is comfortable. It can recline too. We also looked at the Avionaut Maxspace which has one of the tallest shells on the market I think, but he preferred the BeSafe. Interestingly he didn’t like the Britax one as he said it hurt his legs (he’s quite skinny).

Okay that gives me some things to work with thank you.
Napping is definitely something to consider. Skinniness less so, but perhaps we need to go & sit in some.

We visited our local independent retailer and were able to try them out in our car. I’d definitely recommend that if you can.

Thank you - you have helped me order my brain!

The Cybex ones are good safety wise although don't have a very good warranty (as you may have found if you asked about a repair - this is worth checking before you replace, though). Also Britax, Maxi Cosi, Joie, Nuna, Besafe and Recaro are all good options.

TBH you can relax a bit when choosing HBB seats - there aren't as many differences between them as with the toddler stage.

Take her to a reasonably large shop and see what is comfortable for her. John Lewis if you need a chain, or an independent one can be good too.

If she's of a stockier build, you might want to look at hip space in terms of future expansion, and with the R129 regulation, it's up to the maker what they set the weight limit as. Some brands go with the old 36kg weight limit, some have a 50kg weight limit and some have no weight limit, only height limit. Personally I think the idea of a weight limit for a booster seat is a bit bonkers in the first place, but some people worry about using a seat over its "official" limit, so if that would concern you then you might want to opt for the 50kg or no weight limit options.

Thank you @BertieBotts we have ended up with another cybex after I made DH join which for a month!
we did go to a special shop & make her sit in as well.
we do quite a lot of distance in the car & I honestly don’t think I would be happy with a repaired seat, even if I hadn’t taken it to the tip already! But I might note that for future reference.

@Telemichus Out of interest, which Cybex did you go for? We're looking around for a HBB for our 5 yo daughter. We like Cybex, but there are so many different models!!

BertieBotts · 01/07/2024 16:40

Cybex make some miniscule change and then rerelease all their models very frequently. The biggest differences are between the silver/gold/platinum models.

Which ones are you trying to decide between?

I think it’s the Cybex solution g I-fix (this is why I needed mumsnet -I can’t even remember!)
I think the Which rating was good, it was easiest to find online & we had had cybex before.
having said all that the seat belt holders on these ones (we have 2) aren’t as good as on the previous models we had (possibly very fidgety children) I don’t think, however, the kids seem happy.
But also as @BertieBotts says.
