Really loud dreams waking me up!

Is this fresh hell another menopause symptom? I've had tinnitus for years, getting worse though. This new thing is really annoying me and I guess it might be related. At some point in my dream someone starts shouting or turns on loud music and I wake up and I can't get back to sleep 😩. It's spilling over into when I'm actually awake now too. My internal voice is just too loud. Any suggestions?? (I have mentioned it to my dr but to no avail).

I think it could be menopause related. I had the same-it was as if someone had shouted in my ear in the middle of a deep sleep. I used to wake with such a start I used to struggle to get back to sleep (until it was time to get up and go to work of course!). I started HRT and also take Ashwagandha formula from Holland and Barrett. Don’t know which one it was but the midnight screamers have been quelled, hopefully for good, as I found it really unnerving. Such a weird and horrible experience. Thank you for putting this on here - I thought it was just me.

I get this too! It's called Exploding Head Syndrome (could they have given it a scarier sounding name??). I'm not menopausal, though it could be related for you. For me, it happens more during times of stress. It's horrible when it happens. So disconcerting and disorientating. I always feel scared to go back to sleep in case it happens again! I also get sleep paralysis sometimes, but for me, EHS is worse.

I also have tinnitus, but currently there's been little research into the connection between the two. Current research suggests that the number of people experiencing EHS who also have tinnitus is the same as those who don't, which would indicate there's no connection. But as I said, there really hasn't been much research to present a conclusive result.

Sorry I've no advice! But you're not alone.

🤯Thanks both of you. Sorry you have it too, but glad to hear I'm not going crazy!
