Do you have a back up devise incase your phone is lost or stolen?

If I lost my phone it would be a big pain to log into online banking etc, and an even bigger pain if I were away travelling solo. I was thinking of buying an iPad mainly as a back up just incase, but then thought I could just get a new phone and keep the one I have as a back up, with both phones linked to the same accounts. DH says I'm risk averse, and why would I lose my phone? Hmm

Do other people have a back up if travelling alone?

Hell yes!

When I upgrade my phone I keep my old one and I can access everything on it via WiFi. It stays in a safe in the hotel room etc.

I have had a few friends who have lost their phones and they have spent weeks (6 to 8 weeks) trying to restore access to everything. Even then they hadn't quite managed to get everything back to where it was.

No but everything is backed up to the cloud, so I could just get a new iPhone, log in and be sorted

Yes, I keep my old phone as a spare. I also have a pay as you go Sim in it I can use until a replacement sim arrives.

I do back everything up to the cloud and my chrome book can find my phone in an emergency. The one situation I did have difficulty with was when I was accessing my bank account whilst in Scotland on holiday using a chromebook - I have MFA where a code gets sent to my phone - signal was so poor that I couldn't get a text!. Did resolve it by doing transaction on phone where a signal was available. Did wonder how people in the village where I was staying deal with this. (I was on EE) so assumed coverage would be good!

Obviously I meant device! Glad to know I'm not being over dramatic wanting to have another device- an iPad would probably be cheaper, but I'll need a new phone eventually anyway, and it's a good point about being able to put a PAYG sim in it in emergencies.

I have a laptop so can log onto Internet banking from there.

Also have a work phone. Somewhere I do have a cheap ££10 PAYG handset with a sim in it, though should probably look at that as not sure it's even useable.

I do have a new laptop, but for various reasons haven't used it for banking - mostly because I can't remember my login details and I'll have to reset them, but I guess I'd have to do that with a new Apple device anyway. I really don't want to be lugging a laptop on a weekend break though.

With multi-factor authentication losing a phone is now a challenge. Online banking sends a text or wants authorisation via the online banking app.
Most sites want to send a text if you log into a new device. If your phone and SIM are lost it is useless.

A spare device at home (iPad or old phone) can make life easier it it is already set up.

We have no mobile signal here. So have MFA set up on the landline on some cards- a robot calls and reads out the number.

On a new android you'd have to download load each app and then log in. With an Apple device the apps would be downloaded for you, but you'll still have to log in. I'm not sure how you'd access photos though.
