@CandyLeBonBon I am inclined to agree with you, both my daughters have an Asus and find them good.

He says no. "Because for not much more they can get an asus vivibook with an i3 and 256gb of storage around- £329"

From my own personal experiences of HP, I wouldn't anyway, because I got through 3 HPs in 5 years. They are notorious for overheating and battery issues.

Thank you so much. I will have a look at this one you mentioned. X

I looked at ASUS Vivobook 16 X1605EA 16" Laptop - IntelĀ® Coreā„¢ i3, 256 GB SSD, Silver in the Currys website. Love the price. I am planning to go to Currys and get it rather than an online shop. Will you please ask your son what laptop bag I should get? Couldn't find any 16" bags in the Currys website. Sorry if I sound dumb 😁
Please thank your son for me. And thank YOU for asking your son.

I have an HP Pavillion, I’m not sure how the spec compares to the one you are looking at but it’s the best laptop I have ever had. I use it for work and personal use and its handles everything brilliantly. In the past for work I’ve had Dell and Lenovo and they have not compared to this. I bought mine refurbished on Amazon and it came with a one year warranty. I think it was around Ā£300 at the time (around two years ago). I highly recommend HP Pavillion laptops.

Ā£300 refurbished suggests the original rrp when new would be at least double that so say Ā£600 or more new, so a completely different machine than Curry’s bargain basement ones.

Ive previously bought hp pavilion and dell from curry’s at the Ā£300 or less price point and they’ve been utter crap. They’re not the same quality as the same make you buy direct for more money. Curry’s work with manufacturers to produce lower quality ones only for Curry’s, that appear to be the same but are a slightly different model number with lower quality components. You won’t get exactly the same model (maybe same memory or hard drive size but different manufacturer of components) as you can get directly or from other suppliers for higher prices because they’re different. It’s all smoke and mirrors to make the curry’s ones look a bargain!

The bargain you bought from Amazon almost certainly wasn’t originally bought from Curry’s and was probably bulk from by a big organisation who’d have themselves bought in bulk directly, usually higher quality versions for commercial heavy duty.

My daughter has a HP Pavilion from Currys (for university) and it's brilliant.
To counter pp (and confuse you even more @sunshineandstarsgirl ) the assistant we asked for advice in the shop said he'd recommend HP over any other similar spec/similar priced brand for general use because they're reliable workhorses.
DD has had hers now for 2 years and it runs like clockwork. Daily use.
I'm intending to get one myself, from Currys (because the assistant was so helpful) when this old Acer conks out, which, given the noise it's making this morning, may well be this afternoon šŸ˜‚

Should I add care and repair for 80 pounds from Currys for the laptop? This 80 pounds is for 2 years.

He gets care and repair on all the stuff he buys so he reckons it's worth it but obviously it's up to you.

ByBrightSloth · 09/06/2024 09:51

I mean at that point just buy a second hand MacBook or something

Thank you everyone for all your answers. But, now I am confused. 😁😁 HP pavilion or Asus vivobook? Is 16 inch too heavy? Or should I stick with the 14 inch?

I just now rang currys and they said Asus is a good laptop. But, my problem with this is it is 16 inch, which I am assuming is heavy??

In my opinion Apple is great & I wouldn't even entertain anything else.
I've had my MacBook for time and I use it for my Open Uni and I've never had any issues with it.
Silly windows updates taking forever and laptops crashing were the final straw for me and I've had lots of different laptops.

Hello. Thank you so much. I am planning to get the ASUS Vivobook. Will you please ask your son if this mouse will be compatible with ASUS- LOGITECH B100 Optical Mouse. Sorry if I am bothering you. 😁
