Is it ok to leave my nearly 11 year old responsible child whilst I go to the gym for 1 to 1.5 hours? The gym is a 2 minute walk away.

Yes if they're happy to be left and have a way of contacting you if there's a problem.

I started leaving mine for a short time at that kind of age, rules were no making food and no answering the door.

Fontainebleau007 · 07/06/2024 13:07

I would say yes as long as there is a way to contact you incase of an emergency.

Yes

Yes, but it depends on how they will feel being left and if they can contact you.

I wouldn't, not for a primary aged child and not for a non-essential activity. They would probably be fine safety wise but I know mine would be happier to have me around.

So this is a Year 6 child? Who will be going off to secondary school in a few months?

Can't see a problem with it at all. In fact I'm actively trying to leave my Year 6 / 11 year old for longer periods in preparation for big school.

Thanks everyone, she's 11 in September so year 5 now. She's happy to be left but it's not something I've ever done. However I do think it's important that she starts to learn to be alone for short periods. She would have a phone and I would probably start off with 30 mins and build up.
