Musical MNers! Who is this composer?

And what is the name of this piece?

It’s a movement from an orchestral suite of English (I think) folk dances. I have a feeling there is an arrangement for piano too. The composer is 20th century.

In C major, the melody would be something like DE C F DE C D EFGEF EF G (octave below) G C.

If anyone can work it out from that I will be massively impressed and very grateful for the solution to my ear worm 😂

This is a lovely revisiting of memories. My dear dad died 5 weeks after I posted about the FaceTime re Grainger with him. I was also diagnosed with cancer and am now through a year of treatment. Many happy times brought back to me thanks to this thread.

The John Lavender concert was in Chester but must have been at least a decade ago. How lovely to hear of other musical links with him.

So sorry to hear this, I lost my Dad last year and sister is about to have an op for breast cancer. Wishing you the best for your treatment.
Ditto re John Lavender – lovely to hear from other people who knew him, he was such an inspiration as teacher and performer and made an enormous difference to my piano playing. Which in recent years has had a new lease of life since joining a piano group, hence an interest in playing the solo piano version of some of these Grainger pieces (I’ve got the sheet music for Shepherd’s Hey and Molly on the Shore, however they’re seriously tricky!)
