Disappointed with response from GP regarding prolapse

I've developed a prolapse. I went to see a women's health physio who confirmed that it was very mild and to do pelvic floor exercises. I thought I should follow it up with a GP appointment. She told me it was too mild to refer on and that running wouldn't make it worse (physio said otherwise). I'm so depressed, it might be mild but everything feels wrong and uncomfortable. Am I stuck like this forever? Advice much appreciated

Did the physio give you other information about strength/exercise? I’m a pelvic health physio and I have a prolapse and I run and lift weights! Find a physio who can get you fit for purpose and take a listen to why mums don’t jump podcast for loads of info and help
I know it’s a shock but it’s not uncommon (as I’m sure you have found out) and can be managed well - good luck!

No, just kegels. I've been given the impression weights and running are a no no, which is really upsetting as that's the exercise I do. Thanks

Maybe it's just because it's new but I feel like my life is over right now 😞

Any more advice? I'm really struggling

Iwannabeadog · 06/06/2024 21:16

I would definitely get more exercise advice - maybe message the physio you have seen or ask around for recommendations.
Theres more out there than just kegels I promise

What sort of treatment were you hoping for ? My prolapse was pretty gross, my gp's face was a picture. I used kegels and its improved a lot. Better than an operation for sure.

LongLostSock · 06/06/2024 21:25

Definitely try the pelvic floor exercises, it's improved my tremendously. It no longer protrudes from my vagina. Just have to be religious with them. Seriously, you don't want to go down the more medical options.

There's a group on fb you could use to find prolapse friendly work outs.

following with interest as i have pro-lapse. i was told 2 years ago that i was too fat for surgery.. i've now lost some weight and am very close to the required BMI of 30. i went to see my GP who is also the gyno lead and she had a look, confirmed not only 1 but 2 prolapses, tried to fit a rubber ring but it just kept coming out. she has referred me for physio but she already knows it wont work and has advised me as soon as ive had my physio appointment to ring her and she will refer me on for surger (no idea what the surgery might be).

the hard bit is now waiting... it was a couple of months ago when i saw her, i can see on my records she has writted too the specialists and recommended surgery, i have no idea how long i should wait before i follow this up?

Thanks @Iwannabeadog. I'm going to look into it further, I was hoping for more advice than kegels although she did check I was doing them properly which was helpful.

@Bigpaintinglittlepainting I thought she might refer me to a physio. She didn't even check if I knew how to do pelvic floor exercises. And advised me that running wouldn't make it worse!

@beckybarefoot sorry to hear you're having a hard time too. I hope you get your surgery soon xx

Livelaughlurgy · 06/06/2024 22:17

Have you been doing the kegals? Did she tell you to get the NHS squeezy app? The Kegals will make a massive difference if you do them correctly and regularly.

1newname · 06/06/2024 22:19

@Livelaughlurgy no she gave me no advice other than keep doing the kegels
