Call in sick?

Woken up in the night absolutely freezing, achy, with a headache and a temp of 37.5C, which I know isn’t particularly high (wasn’t it 37.8C that was the cut off during Covid).
I only work part time but have a full on, busy patient facing role. I’m also self employed.
I think I know the answer but WWYD? Hate letting people down.

Your temp isn't high. Take some paracetamol for your headache and chills and go about your day.

Unless you absolutely don't want to go to work....

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 06/06/2024 05:58

Just taken it again and it’s now 38C, I took some tablets half an hour ago.
I actually really enjoy my job when well but I feel rubbish, I’m freezing.

Your call, but that isn’t a high temperature for an adult. 37.5 is normal and 38 is only slightly elevated.

only you know if you’re able to work or not!

Stay home. You are feeling unwell and you do have a temp currently. I am also patient facing and this week alone have been exposed to measles and a potential whooping cough. A day resting if you are feeling ill is better than exposing everyone else to it - look after yourself!

AliceCallous · 06/06/2024 06:16

I'd say you were ill with a temperature of 38. Stay home if you can. You'll only end up making someone else poorly.

Cucumbering · 06/06/2024 06:30

My normal temp is 36. something so 37.5 would be much more then a cold and getting out of bed would be tricky.

37.5 and working at home or working with a good amount of physical space between you and others, some people might be ok to pop pills and work as normal.

37.5 and working closely with vulnerable people, I’d stay home and recover. Giving an illness to other staff and patients could cause much bigger issues in staffing rotas and patients health. The quicker you recover, the quicker you’ll be back at work.

Everyone's different. My temperature is usually around 36.5 and if it got to 37.5 I'd be ill. You say its now 38 and you're shivering so you clearly have a fever.. There's no way I'd want to pass that illness to the patients you work with.

Thanks all, have cancelled my list. My normal temp is 36.3 so it’s definitely high.
LFT negative.
Back to bed!
