Travelling first class on the train. Help.

My friend and I are traveling to Edinburgh by train.
As this is a special occasion we decided to buy first class tickets.
We have allocated seats.
Now we are panicking about the journey.
Do we get free food or should we buy something to eat.
What about drinks.
What do we wear.

Have you travelled in from the 20's?

Cos if so then I have to tell you first class has changed

It's tea in a paper cup, mini pack of biscuits and a bloke in too tight kecks checking you've a right to be there 🤷‍♀️ fairly aggressively

Not always!!! On LNER and West Coast, nice crockery and good service.

Oh shame it's Avanti. I got through 2 double gin and tonics, a posh sausage roll with chutneys and a pudding, both served on proper crockery with proper cutlery, on a journey of just over an hour with LNER first class. I was quite pleased with myself.

Avanti is a lot better than GWR. Last time I was on Avanti West Coast they gave us a good hot meal with wine & coffee. It was comfortable and quiet too. Have a nice trip.

Last time I did first class on LNER by the time we got to Peterborough from London I'd already had - crisps, rum and coke, mine meal, pudding and biscuits. There were also snacks enjoyed at the first class lounge. I then had to get off and run for another train because some bastard had stolen some signalling equipment. I was very queasy.

You should dress as if you are going to a Royal garden party. You must bow or curtsey to those getting off the train if anyone does before you board. If the trolley comes along and you wish to have a drink or snack, you must place this request either in Latin or Scots Gaelic.

Under no account should any conversation be in other than received pronunciation, you are forbidden to use certain words such as toilet (it is the lavatory). You should consider carefully your choice of reading material as the Daily Mail is strictly verboten.

You must salute the Angel of the North if your train passes by (not sure if yours does). Upon arrival you must walk up the stairs to Princes Street not use the lift, which is reserved for people from Dundee.

First class is formal wear only. So evening gowns for the ladies and top hat and tails for the men.

😂😂😂😂

to be fair, a lot who travel first class do act like this.... does make me giggle

First class on trains is really nothing to write home about. slightly more comfy seats and a bit cleaner
and you might get a few bits of food. whether they will be edible, is another matter.
i normally take my own food especially on long journeys. Although I have not done the trip to Scotland and apparently that is one of the better first class services

for a proper posh train experience I reccommend something like the orient express. they do short trips that don't break the bank and I think there is something similar done by bellmond in scotland

Oldest son was travelling First from when he was about 14, carefully timing his travels to get the best free food offers

Eg when he went back to his mothers from Glasgow to get his GCDS Results he got the 3.30 as that was the first train from Glasgow with dinner included

On LNER from London to Edinburgh we shared a table with a couple of lovely American tourists from Idaho. While asking me a million questions about British farming, country pursuits and architecture he also consumed at least four vodka and oranges, a whisky, two large red wines, lunch with the aforementioned jam rolly polly and a small bottle of water. I think we had tea and a cake mid afternoon as well. He seemed totally unaffected by his alcohol consumption. We had come from Paris on the Eurostar so he made a very long day much more fun. The steward really kept us entertained as well, he was a big fan of the female American’s classic big hair.
