I’m a teacher and more often than not I come home stressed, dehydrated and exhausted.

I’d love to know if there are some people out there that generally don’t find their work stressful, and if so, what is it you do for a job?

I don’t know what I want from this thread, other than some glimpses of hope in case I ever want to change job! 🍷

You have one of the most stressful jobs. I work as a civil servant and whilst it can be very busy, we do have policies around well being. Having a look break or even making yourself a cup of tea is never a problem. I can even go for a walk or a 5 min break in the garden to destress if necessary.

The only other jobs as bad as yours are some nurses and doctors.

I’m a Senco, currently sitting in tears about the stressful day I’ve had.

Would love to know some non stressful jobs!

Bigminnie1 · 05/06/2024 18:31

I was a teacher and was constantly stressed and miserable- neverending work.
I now work for a charity. It's bliss.

Reprographics Tech in a secondary school. I love it! Pay is pants. I've done other jobs in schools which were SO stressful. Not teaching, but TA, LSA, finance and HR/staffing <shudders>

Reprographics is amazing. Everyone is happy to see you, you just listen to podcasts and get on with work.

If I ever lose my job, I want to do something similarly repetitive and isolated but where i get to make people happy by doing something nice for them. Best sort of job for me

Esgaroth · 05/06/2024 19:16

In-house translator at a state institution.

There's always more than enough to do and there are occasional periods of stress, but generally things get done at a comfortable pace. If there's a lot on, people usually just have to wait longer!

Rowgtfc72 · 05/06/2024 19:23

I Pack frozen fish. 6am-2pm. Sightly more than minimum wage. No staying after hours. No weekend work.

Mumblechum0 · 05/06/2024 19:28

I own a will writing business. It's absolutely excellent, I pick and choose when I work, if I get a feeling a client is going to be a pain I don't take them on. The vast majority of them are lovely though and I really enjoy the work.

Compared with my previous career as a divorce lawyer it's heaven.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2024 19:28

Title checker for a licensed conveyancers. I’m a solicitor. I do the fiddly, time consuming bits on a file then give it back to the case manager.

samiamnt · 05/06/2024 19:37

I'm a psychotherapist in private practice. It's emotionally demanding but I wouldn't call it stressful. Incredibly rewarding, I feel it's the best job in the world, but of course it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

Feckedupbundle · 05/06/2024 19:37

I'm a gardener. I listen to podcasts all day whilst working. Zero stress, apart from the shocking weather meaning I can't work, which as I'm self employed= no wages.
My other job is farming, which is also affected by the weather,is sometimes dangerous, and the paperwork/ rules/ regulations are stressful to get your head around and comply with. Having no day off for months when we are lambing is tiring, but it doesn't stress me. Hoping the rain will stop long enough to get the hay in is massively stressful.

NuffSaidSam · 05/06/2024 19:40

I'm a nanny.

There are short periods of high stress sometimes (trying to get everyone out the door in various fancy dress for world book day, for example), but it's brief.

Mostly, it's really good fun.

No stress outside or work hours either.

DatingDinosaur · 05/06/2024 19:40

My least stressful job was in a fast food takeaway.

The only thing you took home with you was leftovers Grin

It was hard graft and minimum wage but I didn't go home worrying about my job and the only thing I had to 'prep' for was making sure I had a clean uniform.

I have a similar job to this.

Technical support staff in a secondary school

maybeinanotherpie · 05/06/2024 19:42

Not me but I have a friend who's an Occupational Therapist. She loves it! And says she never goes home stressed

Every job I've ever had has been stressful. I have ADHD and being a PA for most of my working life has been awful but the only thing I know

I'd love to be a nurse but everyone says NO!

wellington77 · 05/06/2024 19:44

Ha, I clicked on this thinking the same as the OP, any hope out there?! You made me giggle when you said you were a teacher, so am I!

Inlimboin50s · 05/06/2024 19:44

Housekeeper/cleaner,nanny. I've nine clients each week, all live out in surrounding villages and on farms.
I clean for some, cook a meal for others, take their dogs for a walk and make some beds. Sometimes I help declutter a room or have sometimes painted a bathroom.

There is so much demand for this sort of thing and it keeps me fit.

Bluebellsinthewind · 05/06/2024 19:45

I own a holiday home agency. Its definitely not stressful, I absolutely love booking guests in for holidays and often get caught up in the excitement.

Echobelly · 05/06/2024 19:46

Not doing it now, but I have been an editor of books and journals and it's not been stressful or long hours, though it doesn't pay that well. Ex teachers with good English skills might find themselves welcome for education publishing jobs - it's hard to break into publishing but if you have industry knowledge/professional experience in a specialist area, you might get a break.

MymateDave · 05/06/2024 19:47

A couple months ago I ditched my supervisor role in a large retail store. Had enough of been short staffed and working till midnight. Nothing was good enough for the store manager. So off I went. I now work in a college canteen 9-2.30 term time only. Lovely bunch of ladies. Zero stress. It’s absolute heaven. And I’m counting down to my 9 week summer holidays. Definitely worth a pay cut in my eyes

Knitgoodwoman · 05/06/2024 19:47

I run my own consultancy and it’s not too bad, lots of flexibility and I pick my own hours. Now I’ve got more picky about clients it’s really not that stressful. I do general business but mainly focus on marketing and equity these days. Which I only started 5 years ago and knew nothing about it before.

Fab238 · 05/06/2024 19:47

I don't wish to state my profession but what i will say is that I don't know what stress is at my workplace! I don't even consider it work! I feel like I'm on vacation everyday lol - and I earn approx £50k from this employment.

This may not sound a lot, but crucially, as I don't do much at work, I run a full time business too, and that brings in approx six figure(net). I'm extremely lucky to have found this job -witbout it, my business most certainly wouldn't exist.

I wrote this whilst "at work".

loudbatperson · 05/06/2024 19:48

I'm a researcher, largely UX but I have to wear a few different research hats.

It can be time pressured at times, but I wouldn't say it's stressful.

I have a pretty decent salary, benefits and shares package too.

GreekVases · 05/06/2024 19:48

I’m an academic. While it can be stressful at times, and we’re dealing with AI essays and swingeing cuts, I do have a lot of control over my time, and out of termtime there are a lot of possibilities for recalibrating in an archive.

DisgruntledPelican · 05/06/2024 19:49

I work in communications for a large construction firm. It’s great.
