Unopened - several months depending on consistency. Opened - a few days.

Found one the other day that had an excellent variety of moulds and yeasts. Blue, green, yellow, orange.... It was quite beautiful. I didn't eat it!

If it was less than a week past its date, I'd smell it and eat if it smelled OK.

If it was more than a week past its date I wouldn't risk it.

Harmful bacteria can grow in dairy products before you can smell it.

Unopened then as long as it smelled okay.

Opened then 2-3 days.

I don't mess about with dairy products to be honest once they go out of date.

You do realise that you'd know by looking at them and tasting them if they were going off, and even then they wouldn't do you any harm.

The date is solely for stock control and to prevent unscrupulous retailers from selling food that is months/years old, with the added benefit that it encourages people to throw away perfectly good food and buy some more. Don't fall for it.

Plain yoghurt will just ferment more. It should be ok for weeks unless visibily mouldy or 'off'. I don't look at dates on yogurt at all, or cheese. Theyre not the same as fresh dairy.
