How to stop new shoes rubbing?

I bought some amazing new shoes 2 weeks ago - the fit is PERFECT but after wearing them for a few hours there's a bit of a seam on the inside of one shoe that has rubbed and broken the skin - it's not the heel or toe, just a random spot on the inside of my ankle where the leather is stitched together. I've been patching it up with compeed since, but I'm nervous about wearing them again in case the same thing happens.

What can I do to either toughen up my foot (over the scabby bit once it's healed) or soften the leather so it doesn't rub?

They really are a good fit and I'm not daft enough to force my feet into too-small shoes, it's just the random placement of the leather!

Once fully healed, microporous tape over the area on your foot/ankle where they rub (so they rub the tape rather than your skin). You could also try hitting the stitching with a hammer and/or softening them (the shoes/stitching) with moisturiser.

God, this reminds me of the olden days of having to 'break new shoes in' before wearing them properly Grin

Oooh thanks for that, I never thought of taping my foot. Just got to wait for it to heal now.

I have manky feet at the best of times, which is why getting good ones that fit is such a mission. Hopefully that will work!

You could also soften the leather with liquid paraffin. It will darken it, but if it’s on the inside it won’t show.

It's already been darkened by my blood so will try this, thanks!

Tape some moleskin over the bit that rubs.

Oh no, Op, sounds painful!

How do you use the liquid paraffin? Would vaseline work?

Tape it on the shoe, not your foot!

With LP you just rub a bit in using a cloth (like when polishing shoes), leave overnight and then use a fresh cloth to remove any excess
