Anyone know about coeliac testing?

I am wondering if it is worth getting tested for coeliac disease. Only symptoms are low bone density (-2.3 hip and spine but have a naturally small frame) and I have always had dark circles under my eyes. No GI symptoms at all. Is a test worthwhile based on these symptoms?

The only problem is that I recently cut down on bread and starchy carbs to improve peri symptoms. I also don't eat much processed food. My main source of gluten is probably around 6 of these rye thins a day which I calculate have probably around 0.7g of gluten in total (24g with 3% gluten). Would this be sufficient for a positive test?

If you are concerned it is always worth getting a blood test to rule it in /out. I have had Coeliac disease for 40 years and get zero symptoms if I accidentally eat gluten. I know this isn't the case for everyone. DH's granny was diagnosed age 90 with chronic anaemic as her only symptom.

If you are not sure if you're not eating enough gluten, I would suggest eating more. You don't want there to be any doubt during the testing process or worry you have a false negative result. 2 slices of bread, a decent bowl of cereal, bowl of pasta twice a day and for at least 6 weeks. Don't let your GP suggest you are eating enough with the 6 ryvita you have. Again, you want to avoid any doubt. GPs often don't know enough about the diagnostic process (and a GP can't diagnose you, a positive blood test must be followed up by the gastroenterologist to confirm diagnosis).

If your doctor suspects coeliac disease, they will request the appropriate tests to make sure you are properly diagnosed. See all the stages of diagnosis:
