Question about post-mortem

Why would a post-mortem be required when the death occurred due to life support being stopped?

From experience, if the deceased has received medical attention within 48 hours of death, a post mortem is not required

It may be related to why the person was on life support in the first place.

Yes - agree with @Offredismysister. Dd died after life support was removed, but the coroner was involved/ PM discussed to find the cause of her illness/ need for life support.

When my stepmum died in a hospice a few weeks ago, we were told there was a possibility of a post-mortem because she'd had surgery within the last three months. It didn't happen in the end, because she'd only had a stent fitted which wasn't deemed to be invasive surgery. I thought it was a bit nuts given that there was no ambiguity about what killed her, but apparently that's the process.
