Help - My ADHD Football Obsessed DS has broken his wrist!

We're in Australia in case there is confusion about seasons.
DS 12 has broken his wrist (a grown man was shooting goals against him and kicked a ball too hard and broke it backwards). DS is very hyperactive and spends his school break times playing soccer every day , plus trains twice a week and plays 1-2 games each weekend.
The next 6-8 weeks are going to be a nightmare - I'd love suggestions for what i can do to help him. I think walking in the mornings might burn off some energy but I'm stuck for what else.
It feels like lockdown all over again!

What exactly are his activity restrictions?

any chance he lucked out and got one of the casts where they are allowed to swim?

He's still in a temporary cast until Friday. But hoping it will be a waterproof cast.
No chance of risking it with soccer as he's a goal keeper!

I’m also in Australia. If you have the option of going to a private clinic you’ll likely get more options for casts than if you go to the fracture clinic at a public hospital. A friend of DS’s broke his wrist and had a soft removable cast that was similar to a brace. He was able to return to football after a couple of weeks. Obviously he can’t be a goal keeper but he could go to training at least. Goalies still need to be good with their feet.

If you are attending a public hospital you can definitely get a waterproof cast. They might charge you a small fee for it.

See a physio for advice as well. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what’s safe and what’s not.

Is it a full fracture or greenstick(?) I mean the kind where its not fully broken (common in teens). My dc had their cast off in 4.5 weeks, can't play football still but at least it's not too uncomfortable for too long.

Can he do stuff like practising keepy uppy that doesn’t involve the hands? Or dribbling around cones etc. do some strength stuff with him - lunges and squats. Make some challenge eg how many times can you hop on your left leg. How many times can you bounce a tennis ball on a racquet (with his good hand!)

Its definitely a full fracture. The emergency doctor said that checked with another doctor to see if he could get away with a splint instead of a cast, and it was a definite no.

We don't have insurance so will be public. I suppose we'll see on Friday when he gets his cast.
