What time does your 5 year old go to bed?

Mine usually between 7-8, but recently he's not been tired until about 8:30-9 which I think is way too late.

Although he has been on half term from school this week so I think that has obviously had something to do with it.

What time does your DC go to bed?

Upstairs at 6.30, asleep for 7- no later than 7.30. He needs it though and is ready for it. He gets up at 5.30 regardless of what time he goes to bed so at least I get an evening this way

Mine just turned 6 but very similar to yours - I try to get her into bed around 7.30-8 but she doesn’t go to sleep until 8.30-9 and lies in bed listening to stories on her Yoto or messing about with her teddies. I think the down time is as important as actually sleeping and gives her time to wind down, relax, ponder life etc!

7pm. I need my down time in the evenings!

7pm in bed with light off

Anononony · 02/06/2024 20:23

4 year old, 9-9.30pm. Sleeps through until 8am which seems to be plenty, never naps unless in the car for a reasonable amount of time, isn't overly grumpy, jumps out of bed in the morning and is doing very well in school nursery and has plenty of energy

Can sometimes get him to bed earlier in winter but no chance at this time of year. We're only now about to go up and do shower time, it's not remotely dark, so in his mind it's not time to sleep, and as above he seems to be getting enough sleep so it's just not a battle I'm willing to have out with him.

PartnersInCrime · 02/06/2024 20:26

What time to they get up? Are they getting enough sleep? Mine was lights out at 7 at that age, because invariably up by 6!

It honestly varies. Anywhere between 5:30am - 7:30am! And that's regardless of whatever time he goes to bed 😵‍💫

We leave all three of them in the lounge when we go to bed at 11:00 pm and tell them to make sure the TV is off and all the doors locked before they crawl (they're very small) to their cots.

Bucket07 · 02/06/2024 20:43

Between 830-9. I wish it were earlier but like me he's a night owl. Usually wakes between 7-8.

WellExactly2 · 02/06/2024 21:02

Usually asleep by 8.

gernute · 02/06/2024 21:03

Goes to bed around 8.45, is asleep around 9-9.15. Wakes at 7am. She is often out until 7pm for extracurricular classes or trips out, and isn't tired before then.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 02/06/2024 21:03

DD is 5 next month and is usually asleep for 7-7.30 and awake at 7. She needs 12 hours sleep, give or take half an hour.

Covidwoes · 02/06/2024 22:34

My nearly 6 year old DD only needs 10 hours. She's generally asleep by 8, and awake at 6. Thankfully she amuses herself in the mornings now! She has always been an early riser.

katmarie · 02/06/2024 22:53

My 6yo goes up between 7.30 and 8 usually, earlier if he's looking particularly knackered. He's always been good about going to sleep though and he's usually out in a few minutes. He's up between 6 and 7 most mornings.

gano · 02/06/2024 23:41

7.30-8pm on a school night, and she's up for school at 6.45am.
Weekends she's goes to bed between 8pm and 8.45pm. She tends sleep in a longer and gets up between 7.30 and 8am.

Beansandneedles · 02/06/2024 23:45

Another early riser here. A 630 start is a decent lie in for us so kids are in bed by 7, 730 at the latest. For years it seemed a late night = an earlier morning, and with mornings starting at 6 or before already I was very motivated to avoid my day starting any earlier. I think my younger one would stay up later and sleep later, but the fomo is too strong.

Roastingtomhardy · 02/06/2024 23:46

7-7.30 in winter…now..not falling asleep before 8.30/9 and up at 7, she needs 11 hours to not turn grumpy and has been falling asleep later and later due to lighter evenings. That’s the only think I don’t like about spring/summer. In winter she gets much more sleep and we get lovely, long evenings

ControlShiftDelete · 03/06/2024 01:29

7pm in bed and falls asleep by 7:30/7:45 latest he will be fast asleep. He is very energetic and he needs min 11 hours solid sleep and even with 12 hours sleep he was yawning during his Christmas play.

ControlShiftDelete · 03/06/2024 01:30

I forgot to add during the weekends he sleeps at 8:30 and latest if we were out and about visiting family he can sleep at 9pm.
