worried about dh's mental state

name changed for this. dh is off work with low mood/wrs. in the past few days he has said things which i'd class as paranoid. nothing big or sinister just a bit odd. all of this is very out of character. should i be worried? the low mood is worrying enough but with the paranoia i'm wondering if this is part of a bigger thing. please help.

Hi op

Has he been seeing his gp?

Is he on any meds for it?

I would call the gp first thing in the morning and request a call back asap and see if you can get some advice.

Might also be worth giving the crisis team a call if your really concerned

Can you provide an example?

Severe anxiety / hyper vigilance can sometimes sound like paranoia from the outside.

dddandelion · 02/06/2024 20:21

yes seeing the gp although he is not a big talker so not sure what he has shared. he has said a couple of strange things suggesting he doesn't trust his own brain. for example his foot hurt out of nowhere and he said he thought there was something wrong with his brain causing it and causing his low mood. he said it almost laughing because he knew it was ridiculous but that he still didn't trust what was causing the pain. not on medication.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but that doesn't sound like paranoia to me. That sounds like someone who's unwell, knows they're unwell, and is aware that stress can cause physical symptoms.

That doesn't seem like paranoia

Problems with the brain can cause limb issues, and the brain does cause low mood when it's out of whack

Why do you think he's paranoid?

coralpinkduckegg · 02/06/2024 21:32

Do you have a few more examples of paranoia - it's hard to tell whether it's normal worry or actual paranoia with the one example you've given.

A paranoia to be concerned about is something that sounds a bit unreal, absurd, etc.

cavernclub · 02/06/2024 21:41

I would look up your mental health crisis team - he sounds quite unwell.

dddandelion · 02/06/2024 23:15

there are a couple of other examples but maybe you are right and it isn't paranoia. it is really difficult not to worry, this is a very hard time. thank you all for your posts.
