Extremely dry eczema skin

I’ve sadly suffered with dry skin and eczema since a child and I’m in the middle of quite the flare up.

I’ve been prescribed a good steriod cream which seems to tackle the bad patches of eczema quite well, however my skin is incredibly sore and dry. It’s never been so dry in fact and it’s very uncomfortable.

I’ve used Cetraben, Epaderm & a couple of other emollient’s (one in a pot which resembled wax - didn’t like that at all!) and although the feel thick and look like they’d do the job at moisturizing my skin, they sadly do not leave me feeling soft for very long.

I can’t use aveeno or dove. I’ve tried E45 and probably a couple of other supermarket/drugstore bought creams but they also do not work.

Any suggestions for a real good, thick emollient??

I have eczema too. I use raw coconut oil. It's really cleared my skin up. Just don't put it on your face. It's stings for some reason but it doesn't sting anywhere else.

I have zerobase on prescription which works well. Put it on straight after a shower and when it was really dry would reapply at night too.

Try aleppo soap made of laurel oil. The laurel and olive oil seem to help

I use doublebase once on my DD who has really dry/eczema prone skin. Its make her skin so soft and she's not itching now.

50:50 white soft paraffin/liquid paraffin is excellent.

@Ijustpopped agreed that this is the best emollient. But wonder if this is tub of grease the OP said s/he said they didn't like!

I have a very dry skin due to an autoimmune condition & partner has eczema. We find ringing the changes with potions and lotions seems to help as our skins get used to one product. I find organic coconut oil good, almond, olive. Sometimes I use shea butter. We also use the chemically stuff too like cetraben, CeraVe. The gloopy paraffin oil type stuff is good for smothering on at night.

CherryRipe1 · 11/06/2024 12:19

Oh and used organic castor oil and that worked well.

It's very expensive but I suffer from eczema and the drunk elephant barrier repair cream is great for my face
