Swimming pool turned swimwear yellow...any tips to rescue them?

Just returned from a holiday abroad and all our swimwear has turned a shade of yellow from the pool. A few other families said this happened to them as well.
Anyone any tips on how to rescue our swimwear and get rid of the yellow tinge??!

Are you sure it wasn't your sun cream? Happened to us and was definitely the sun cream. Nothing could shift it sadly.

Oh really? I suppose it could have been, I'm gutted, spent a fortune on new swimwear for everyone!!

If it's from the suncream and white swimwear, put it in a bucket of hot water and two Milton sterilising tablets and leave to soak for a few hours before washing. Seems to get it out of DDs clothes.

Sun cream.

PurBal · 02/06/2024 17:54

It’s definitely suncream. And agree with PP it won’t come out.

Pool water can fade swimming stuff if the mix of chemicals is a bit off, but it wouldn't make it go yellow I don't think.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/06/2024 17:56

Yep suncream

Happens every year but way I see it is dd doesn't fit in the costumes the next year so have to buy a new one

But it's annoying

You could try soaking the suits in warm (not hot) water mixed with white vinegar. Leave it to soak for an hour.

merrymelodies · 02/06/2024 18:01

1 cup of vinegar to 1.5 litres of warm water.

Use a biological stain remover and wash.

Thanks so much for all the tips, will give them a go. Hasn't happened to us before but first time taking DC away so practically lived in the swimming pool!! And of course they were coated in sun cream!

This happened to us once on holiday in Cyprus.
Definitely the pool and not the sun cream.
Soaking in astonish helped. Once we got back.

Wet likely to be sunscreen. Spray with an anti calc to remove it

We live in the algarve and used to run a villa management company, the white sheets and towels were often covered in yellow marks but the anti calc worked

Twilightstarbright · 02/06/2024 18:23

Soaking in vanish worked well for me.

I’ve found dishwasher rinse aid work for sun cream stains, weirdly. I usually only have to spot treat though, I’m not sure if it would work if it was all over yellow.
